    Default Help with ISP...

    ok i have a problem with my isp they have the fastest internet i can get in this hick place... and everytime i go over so much bandwidth(like 100kbs) for 2 hours

    they turn around and cap my internet to like 10kbs for the rest of the week...

    what should i do?

    tell them to suck my balls and to F-off...
    or let them treat me like im there bieotch.

    remember they are the fastest i can get around here... my mom needs fast internet so she can work... money isnt the real problem here just that we dont have any other isp's to turn to...

    its starting to piss my whole family off...
    Darky has stopped by to say hello :).

    there is a program called netlimiter, which reduces the amount of bandwidth your machine or local area network is allowed to use. you could probably find a safe median to use as far as bandwidth goes, but for the most part id suggest going with a diff isp, because that is bullshit, unless your paying for a total (bandwidth) usage istead of constant bandwidth.

    ::edit::
    do you live in the united states?, if so there is a service from directtv that i think is relatively fast if you were looking to go with another isp.

    Do you have Wi-Fi? If yes, make sure your network is WEP or WPA encrypted, with at least 64 bit. Else other people can use your connection and eat up bandwidth. Happened to me once... Dam I was pissed. So maybe it doesn't have anything to do with the ISP?

    If it does happen to be the ISP...

    Your ISP is crap then. By the way, it is possible to get a faster ISP out there. Sign up for Time Warner Cable or get Comcast High speed. After all, what's the competition for?

    It's been a while... but I'm BACK!!!

    dude, some places do not offer services like that, hence when he said
    ok i have a problem with my isp they have the fastest internet i can get in this hick place
    well to me that seems like he doesnt have any other options except for global net(or dsl2 whatever u want to call it) which has a higher ping, just exceptional download speeds.

    to me if its being capped for a whole week and then the cap is being lifted again, its your shit isp, maybe your modem is overheating(who knows), it wouldnt be the kid next door though. cause i dont care what you do, on a router one person cannot hold a steady amount on bandwidth(it will raise and then lower) especially in the case of 802.11b or 802.11g.
