Default Full Implications of Blizzard vs MDY case

This is an excellent article about the implications of Blizzard (WoW) vs MDY (Glider - WoW bot) case. It also gives you an idea how big this is - as its probably going to be appealed to the Ninth District Court (highest court in United States).
    Hopefully you can understand it.

And distributing software that helps users infringe copyright itself constitutes secondary copyright infringement, which could expose MDY to copyright law's draconian "statutory damages" of $150,000 per act of infringement.
    Ouch.

That is a bit costly, i knew that Gilder was in trouble but that looks grim for the owner.

Well, Blizzard is lucky that I'm not Judge Campbell (and the world is probably lucky that I'm not a Judge at all). If I was the Judge I would've told Blizzard to shut up and get out of the courtroom.

I'd also do the same to worlds.com.

Edit: Oh, and I don't really like Glider (I never understood paying for cheats). I just think it's stupid to drag copyright law into this.

    150,000 is waayyyy too much.

Did the rest of the world forget that they are talking about a game?

Copyright was never intended as an alternative mechanism for contract enforcement. If that theory is allowed to stand, it would dramatically strengthen end-user license agreements and create enormous liability for those who break them. That would eviscerate the first sale doctrine and create tremendous legal risks for firms and free software projects that reverse-engineered other firms' products for purposes of interoperability. MDY may not be the world's most sympathetic defendant, but there's a lot more at stake in this case than World of Warcraft bots.
    not good...

i'm a little worried about what it means for botters everywhere, the ruling of this case is very disturbing, as it could open the doors for more law suits against creators of botting programs for any game
