    Default Australian Censorship

Australia is trying to censor the Internets. On all Australian ISPs, it will limit everything on "safe for work" sites only. Meaning, anything that has any form of pornography, obscene language, and anything that is even close to illegal; will all be banned from Australia.

http://www.myg0t.com/omp/aussie_blacklist.txt - List of all sites Australia will soon block.
EDIT: myg0t fails and 404'd their list (probably getting too much traffic to it), here is a pastebin of the list of sites that are going to be blocked: http://pastie.org/private/nh7tqtabuomaejrfjmz0yw

I honestly see no child pornography websites on the banned list. They only seem to be banning porn that is of people 18+, which is legal >_>

What is the punishment for circumventing the blocks? Proxy get?

If Internet porn is blocked will they also outlaw regular porn (magazines and videos)?

    ...Wikipedia blocks...interesting

They will probably block most proxies.

And Wikipedia has a lot of pornographic content and obscene language, surprisingly.

I remember looking at that "Banned Australian Links" list and it contained lots of sites that are most likely site's for pedo's with child pornography on it... I don't think they'd remove them.

I'm just wondering why they dont block or at least pay attention to google, yahoo etc. search engines, because nearly everyone founds all illegal material((child)porn, copyright material) using some sort of web searching.

Yeah, I understand that they are trying to block sites that have illegal types of pornography, but they also block 100% legit sites that have no illegal content on them.
    Those lists are fakes.
    What makes you think that?

Honestly, I wish America would do that. I am not fond of offensive language and pornography.

I would be all in for that.

imagine, lets get rid of all the adult books.

oh we may as well get rid of the plays, movies and all other media, simply because the goverement has no intrest in it.

corn77, you're probably only against that stuff because of your religion, and we have seperation of church and state to prevent people from getting brainwashed for that reason.

Just because you are not fond of it doesn't mean it should be outlawed, you are taking from other people's freedom. Imagine if the government started taking your freedoms away. It is just one more step towards restricting anything. The less the government interferes with our life, the more we can go on living...

The list of banned sites is fake, saw it a couple of weeks ago and did some reasearch and thats what the news sites said...but it would be something along those lines. Personally, if the censoring passes, I'm leaving the country as soon as I can - purely out of principle

    Just found this today

Colin Jacobs of the civil liberties group Electronic Frontiers Australia suggested that the discrepancy was likely the result of an individual vendor combining their own blacklist with the government's, and Conroy later acknowledged that an updated post was "close" to the official list. Many of the sites on the list appear to host child pornography (we declined to click through to check), but press reports have noted the inclusion of sites offering adult pornography, online gambling, and even a few MySpace pages and ordinary businesses.

Also, corn77, how would you like it if we blocked all religious sites since religion is known to start conflicts?

Speaking of the leak, Australia’s Broadband and Communications Minister Stephen Conroy says the list is not the official ACMA blacklist. He says that while the published list has around 2,400 blocked URLs, the official ACMA blacklist contains roughly 1,050.

“There are some common URLs to those on the ACMA blacklist,” he said. “However, ACMA advises that there are URLs on the published list that have never been the subject of a complaint or ACMA investigation, and have never been included on the ACMA blacklist,” he said.
Of course they are going to say the list is fake, they don't want people complaining that "omfg my favourite pornsite is going to be blocked?!"

    @Da 0wner: WTF.
