You seem to have missed my main point that people with an XBox don't want Wii games and this is exactly what they will get with this.

    so 360 wins at motion.
    Xbox isn't cheaper than wii? Wiis aren't 380, they're 250. (Canadian dollars)

The stripped Xbox (and the medium one) is cheaper. It has enough memory for one or two games and you can just swap the HD if you want more space.

No, they can pull this off, it probably won't be as hard as they think after they get the main figure recognition down, after that they could probably just look for corners and do some other magic. To differentiate other people, keep the human form in mind and follow the layout of the edges. Most people share a "common ratio" to within a few points of how long parts of their body are compared to others, etc.

The technology is out there to detect multiple people and distinguish the spaces between them and recognize them as separate "objects". As long as you dont switch places on it, it can tell.

Also, remember that this is technology and research funded by Microsoft, which is owned by the second richest man on earth, so if anyone can find a way, it's them.

And on another note, with this system, you won't have a chance to throw your controller into your band new, fancy-pants, HD TV.

And so the world of gaming has evolved from the only tool you needed is your body, to needing a controller, and now back to needing only your body... And soon, the world of medicine will degenerate back to leeches, only this time, they will be robots

CoD:MW2 had nothing to do with the new controller at all...
All the article did was reinforce what has already been said - if it works great, they win else Wii wins. It did say that if a CoD or Halo would use it then it would be great, but I find it unlikely (maybe less unlikely for Halo as it is XBox only, but CoD is PS3 as well and I find it unlikely they would remake a game to make it work for a new system).

The new Lionhead demo with that kid was pretty slick. I can't believe that they managed to keep this kinda thing under wraps with out some kind of rumors before E3.

I don't think it's gonna be a whole new xbox. More like a camera that goes on top of your tv like the wii sensor bar and you plug it into a usb port on the back of the Xboxl

This could be taken and implemented into Halo Reach, that's not exactly a Wii game. With the Wii you have to have your controller look at the screen (which it locates based on the IR sensor bar) with Natal you have the screen looking at you in a way. Golfing, FPS, RPGs, and tons of other stuff could branch off of this.

With a new Halo coming out in 2010 Project Natal is probably going to weave it's way in there. They could even give you multiple Spartans to get your friends in as, until you get glassed of course... Reloading could be as simple as doing the motions yourself. Heck they might even come out with a prop for you to use. Shooting might be hard to implement, not sure how they could detect you pulling the trigger on your BR but if there is a will there's a way.

Driving your warthog could be as simple as leaning to the right to go faster, the left to powerturn, and leaning all the way back to brake. Heck it may even be able to detect your feet, and use them for speed control, and let you pull a "stick shift" (or mash down in an alternate spot to hit the parking brake) back in order to enter a powerslide and then put it back into drive in order go. Getting out could simple be when you just "climb out" and stand up, and if I want to tell my friends something in game chat I could touch the side of my face to represent turning on a intercom system. This has so much more potential than the Wii it's not fair to compare them.

Hardcore gamers own XBox 360's and PS3's, not Wii's. Project Natal may outclass the Wii in every single way, but that doesn't mean it will be successful, because I don't think many people with XBox's want that kind of gameplay or own a Wii if they do. Nintendo are notorious for their devilishly addictive and fun games and those games work perfectly for body based gameplay. Shooting things? How hard is to aim when you don't have a gun. Oh, give them a gun, but now it's not "your body is the controller" anymore. The Wii really is just a more practical tool for all round gaming when compared to Project Natal, but it only is beaten in areas outside gaming. As a media platform, it had minimal support. As a general use, it would be annoying. As a driving game, it can guarantee accurate steering wheel like positions and can have buttons that do the appropriate things such as breaking. As a sports game, it can accurately track specific movements and translate them as needed with good programming. As a shooting game, it can provide enough buttons to get the job done while giving a good "gun emulator". There really is more, but I have a feeling someone may tl;dr. my post as it is.

Slightly misleading thread title, didn't expect this to be about project Natal.

I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on it, hoping for it to be a success.

Actually the point is to use real life objects that do not have to interface via a wire. I can see where a gun model would be useful. Hell, you could probably pick up a stick and it'd recognize it.

Oh yea, that thing looks really cool. Saw it on the show "E3" on G4 tv. Most likely thought it will be overpriced and too much for me so i wont be buying it. Hopefully they put it for a resonable 100 dollars thought.

Actually, it uses stereo infrared cameras, so it sees in 3D, meaning not just facial recognition, but it can just figure out who's fatter, etc. and use that .

This is yet another thing that some random company came up with a cool idea and Microsoft just bought the company (although Google's been doing it as of late too). Most people won't want to spend $600 on a console alone though (wasn't this the main reason MS followers hated the PS3 on launch?) plus games and controllers. Everyone but Sony seems to be going peripheral-happy for some reason.
