    Default My awesome new computer¿

I have been saving up for about two years; as of recent, I was able to finally purchase a laptop. Without the help of parents, relatives, or the like (I payed completely for it), I bought myself a laptop. It is a 16'' hp dv6. With a 16'' screen you can view in true high definition wide screen (16:9). Here are the important specs:
AMD Turion Ultra Dual Core 2.4 GH Processor
250 GB Hard Drive 7200 RPM
ATI Radeon 4650 1G Dedicated RAM
4 GB RAM, with an additional 4 GB page file on an inserted memory card (the ones for cameras)
    64 bit vista

I need help determining what to do with the operating system. I have a tower that uses linux, a tower that uses xp, and now this... I want the speed of and XP, but I only can get 32 bit XP professional... 32 bit only recognizes up to 3 gigs of ram...4 gigs if you hack the system... What are your guy's ideas?..

Yea, it always feels good for a moment... then I get all sad and can't spend money on anything ever.... but then I realize I have a laptop that I can use and that makes me happy. Hmmm... Vista sometimes makes me angry... slow and a little bit buggy... But I do like the smooth black look.

just disable lots of stuff, I can't stand the double-triple checker for everything! "are you really realllllly you want to do this?"

Screw off vista, do some searching and you can disable most all of it. Got mine all set up and it works great. Never had a BSOD, nor really any other problems. Besides the annoying stuff I disabled.

Use it for some extreme triple boot features BTW I use Vista Ultimate, it is ALOT better once you disable the UI features and disable vista security features ~ Although it does get kinda junky and you might have to restore Vista once a year or so.

I think I might just let vista sit here until I install windows 7... what do you guys think of that idea?... plus anybody have any other/better thoughts? I would be interested to hear them.

your computer is almost similar to my desktop, just a lil slower.
    Get vista 64 bit.

It runs pretty fast, almost to xp.

CS3 starts in about 10 secs for me.
    FireFox is about 3 secs.

Either way it probably doesn't matter on the OS, vista or xp. You will need that 1GB extra memory just to run Vista compared to XP :P.

I personally have no problems with vista and my machines have 2GB of RAM so 4GB should do you just fine.

You'll get that with Windows Vista.

I own a Laptop with Vista, a desktop with XP and just order another desktop that comes with Vista and XP pre-installed on it lol.

I like the looks of Vista a little more than XP, but I really can't stand using it.
When I get my new desktop I plan to mess with it a little more but personally XP > Vista

Get god damned Windows 7! And if you want to keep it, pay for a license when it comes out, or get Windows Vista with a Windows 7 upgrade.

Get windows 7 or Vista. There really isn't much speed difference between Xp and vista anymore.

Also with Vista, you should disable User Account Control and harddrive indexing. These are the things that make it annoying/slower.

I can buy the full blow ultimate edition for much much cheaper than the normal price...

example: ... full microsoft office 2007 package (everything)... 400$ American.... I pay 60$ American..
...I havs a friend that works for microsoft and he can get the stuff for a reduced price....

the RC version only lasts for a year... then you need either a key... or a new install..

I'll just keep overwriting the OS till I can get a torrent for the real OS.
I keep all my data on a seperate 550gb partition and all my programs are on the net or burned to dvd.

I'm pretty sure it lasts a year from when it was released, not when you install it.
