    Default Do not trust Bobng

If he gives you a script or anything do not run them do not trust him also do not give him any passwords or usernames for any accounts (wether it be runescape or something else) because he wanted me to test this "Python server" for him and he lied to me. So I ran the python server after it "initialised" my screen flashed white and I lost icons on my desktop I quickly restarted my computer and got grub error 15 (THANKS A LOT ASSHOLE) i booted off the CD and i browsed into my /home/mark to find no files there. I lost all my homework that is due tommorow that I spent all night on. DOUCHEBAG. I sent him an angry forum PM too.

DO NOT TRUST HIM!!! If he ever tells you to run a script of his tell him to GTFO and ignore him/block him because this isn't the first time I have heard of him doing something malicious. (There was another incident where Harry gave him a MYSQL username and password and he put a forkbomb on it)

Also, do not reply to this post if you are going to say something stupid like "You shouldn't of run the script, noob". I will just hate you if you do.

I will be on tomorow I have A LOT of homework to do. Bye.

Also, he pastebinned me the script. I will try my best to recover it (I will try to access my router/modem and view my history) to show someone here who can tell me what it does

maybe his script malfunctioned? it was a test after all right? Not defending him really, just listing possibilities....don't even know it's possible? lol could be, but I doubt it.

I Seriously doubt that a malfunction will remove all my files and remove my GRUB loader so that I cannot boot from my disk. It would of removed much more but I restartd my computer but I was unable to recover anything (from my harddrive at least, still working on getting that script when I finish my homework).

That sucks man. Don't do anything on that hard drive, you should be able to run some recovery program if you attach it as an external drive to another computer and get your shit back.

I doubt it too, but it's semi possible, if the stars align, on a Tuesday, in June, on a leap year, with a full moon....during a Saturn eclipse...maybe?

There was no way to recover any of it. I booted of the ubuntu CD and over half (MAYBE EVEN MORE) of my files were gone. Even files in the system folder and in other critical folders were missing. I already installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu on that drive.

I'm wondering why you had homework, but maybe you have school when I have summer.

Try to be more careful when running things your unsure of, and I hope you can get all your stuff back.

the files aren't "gone" most likely registered as deleted, not written over, yet. Computers just ignore deleted files until you write over them. and there are programs that can recover deleted files. That is what the claw meant.

they are more hidden than that, you need a special program designed for recovering deleted files.

Ignorance is not an excuse - you knew Bobng had a malicious past and you blindly ran what you did not know. It doesn't make what Bobng did right, but it does make it pretty funny for me.

Oh, also I'm fairly sure Python would only be able to delete root files if you ran it as sudo, which is never a clever thing to do. I may be wrong, but I believe this is accurate.

I only found out about his past when I did a search for "Bobng" on the forums (and that was just when I logged in about an hour ago)

What Brain said. Assuming that you reformatted the drive the ubuntu would be installed over the old ubuntu files (most likely), so most of your old files should still be there. When something gets deleted, it doesn't actually get physically removed from your hard drive, the code is still there - its just the sector gets different attributes, so your computer ignores it and writes over it when theres new stuff to do. tl;dr you should be able to get nearly all of your files back still.
