    Default Sux2beme.

    Conclusion: Sux 2 be me..

Story: I tried changing the FSB value in my bios, which resulted in my bios not working anymore.. So I removed the battery from my mainboard, restarted, put battery back.. Everything worked again.. <Stupid from here> I thought this must've been some kind of BIOS-bug, so I decided to run my MSI Auto Update client.. It came up with a bios-update, as a good boy I decided to run it. It successfully flashed my old bios to zero (removed it). But it less succesfully put the new bios on, halfway my virus scanner thought it would be cool to just pop-in to tell me the software I was running shouldn't be trusted.. Thanx to that, the BIOS-Flashing broke.. So from this point I was stuck with a broken BIOS, after running several 'walkthroughs' on howto recover none succeeded. So I ended up in the store today buying a new mainboard, cause my old one is totally broken. A hundred bucks wasted.

    Goto Conclusion;

    1. Virus scanners are for newbz
    2. You never change your BIOS through Windows
    3. Do you still have a warranty on it?

Well yeh as previously mentioned, You do all your BIOS flashing in DOS to ensure nothing can corrupt your flashing..
    But!
I'm sure as hell there is a way to recover it..
    Im certain there is.

I didn't even know you could flash your BIOS from within Windows. I thought you had to go out to DOS.

Well, how was I supposed to know that? I just ran the update-service that came from the driver CD included.

And no, there isn't a way to recover.. I can send it back to MSI, but that's about it. The bios-chip isn't really seperated on my Motherboard, so I can't swap it myself with a new one.

I do believe you have screwed you motherboard, kind sir. You're still able to remove the currrent bios completely (short something out, cant remember what) but no idea how you'd put a new one on without being able to boot anything lol...

I'm no moron, I spent my whole weekend trying to repair it :-(..
I've made lite twenty thousand different floppy's, none of them worked, so you I'm 99% sure my mobo is broken beyond repair.

Your bios is completely fucked, so you're unable to boot anything...be it a floppy disk, hard drive, cd, etc. You can't even boot your bios (lol). But your bios is stored in a chip on the motherboard, I think what Hermen meant was he found a way to replace that chip and thus fix the problem rather than replacing your whole motherboard

It wouldn't have mattered. After the failed flashing, the BIOS was FUBAR, and couldn't be reflashed.

Well actually, there is a section in your bios called the 'boot block', this is the kind of recovery area.. So if you fuck up your bios, it will still load the bootblock. And in some cases you are enable to recover your bios from there..

About the bios chip, it's integrated onto the mobo in such a way you would need very specific tools to remove & replace it. So that's not really an option either..

    Send it back for repair.

Buy the exact same motherboard and swap them and send the broken one back.

Long story short: Use Linux (when you flash your bios).
