    Default Windows = Stolen?!

So I was talking to my friend who knows a lot about Windows and computers etc. He explained something to me that I got lost in about some code you can still type to-this-day into even windows 7 and it will do a certain function.

The catch is that this string that you enter must end in a dollar sign and he said that Bill Gates still cannot tell you exactly why it must end in a dollar sign. This is because he doesn't know why because DOS was stolen from Gary Kildall of Digital Research. The original and FIRST home PC OS was CP/M.

    CPM

Read the article. To this day, Window's core is still based on CP/M which Bill stole years ago. If Caldera Inc. would've settled for royalties including future Windows versions, they would've been set for life!

So for all those documentaries out there of how Bill Gates is the best businessman in history, he boils down to nothing else but a mere common thief. Interesting.

There are many ways to be a great business man, and you don't get to one of (the?) most wealthy people in world just on luck, you do have to be a great business man.

Again false. The inventor of the mouse presented it to IBM and they said what in the world would anyone need a mouse for? Bill Gates soon after cut that person into a deal to get the mouse. So again he was very smart and saw the potential in it and was willing to take a risk and the investment paid off, such did buying DOS.

Like said above, he was a great business man.

iirc the mouse interface came from a now famous printing company (forgot name).

Xerox also created the "desktop" idea of having icon's etc. Moving away from the command-lines of DOS.

Yeah.. Microsoft took advantage of the then small XEROX.

My dad is a VP for XEROX, and yeah.. he told all of these horror stories

"In 1981, Microsoft paid Seattle Software Works for an unauthorized clone of CP/M, and Microsoft licensed this clone to IBM which marketed it as PC-DOS on the first IBM PC in 1981"

Hobbit, you are wrong. The copy is clearly stated it is unauthorized by Digital Research.
