Introduction
I'm writing this forum tutorial for a few reasons...first of all a while back, 'random repping' and 'rep parties' were not uncommon. And, yes, I was a part of a few. I realize that Wizzup? made a post about these, but it wasn't that detailed. In fact, in my opinion i think it scared a few people, and now they stay away from reputation in general. (No offence Wizzup, just my opinion )
What is Reputation?
Reputation is what shows how respected you are in the community. Your reputation level is shown as gray, green or red boxes under your name. They look like this:
Green is for positive. It means that you have a reputation higher then 1.
Blue is for balanced, it means that you have a reputation of 0.
Red means that you have been 'de-repped'. I will get into this later, and how to do it, but this means that your reputation is under 0.
Gray means that your reputation is disabled. You can do this yourself if you don't want people to see your reputation. Just go to your Edit Options section, and uncheck the 'Show Your Reputation Level' box. When you first make your account on Villavu, you start out with one green box.
How do I Give People Reputation?
You give people reputation by clicking this button: on the top right hand corner of their post. If you want to give or take reputation from them, this is what you click.
A little box will then appear saying, "What do you think of ***'s post?" and two boxes, one asking if you approve, and one asking if you disapprove. Click which one, then make a comment that you want the person to see. This is not mandatory, however it is nice telling them why you repped/de-repped them.
Remember: ALL REPUTATION GIVING/TAKING IS ANONYMOUS! Only admins can see who gave/took reputation to others.
After you give/take their reputation, they will get a notification in their User CP section. It will show what color box ( for giving reputation, for taking reputation, this is new, this is if registered users give reputation, it doesn't give or take reputation from you.) and it will show the message you left for them. If you so wish, you can add your name to the end of your message, if you don't want to remain anonymous.
Why Do People Have More Boxes Then Me?
How many boxes depends on how much reputation you have:
-499 to -400: 5 red boxes
-399 to 300: 4 red boxes
-299 to 200: 3 red boxes
-199 to 100: 2 red boxes
-99 to -1: one red box
0: one blue box
1-99: one green box
100-199: 2 green boxes
200-299: 3 green boxes
300-399: 4 green boxes
400-499: 5 green boxes
etc.
Hover Text for Reputation
If you move your mouse over a persons reputation, it will have some text:

Notes of Reputation
1) DO NOT give it out randomly. This will result in a warning, and then an infraction if continued.
2) ANYTHING that has helped you and/or others is grounds for giving reputation. ANYTHING that is offensive is grounds for taking reputation.
3) Don't be afraid to give/take reputation! If you must, just don't sign your name, that way if you take reputation from someone, they can't get mad at you because they don't know it is you!
4) People with disabled reputation can still be repped!
5) The amount of points given/taken away from people depends on the amount of points that the person giving/taking has. Ergo, if you have a low amount of points, you give a low amount of points.
6) NO giving reputation doesn't reduce yours, and NO taking reputation doesn't give you more.
7) DO NOT make threads specifically made to pass around random reputation. Random reputation is a no-no .
8) Some members don't take reputation into account because of all the random reputation that was going on. Lets try to change this around! Rep for the right reason!
9) You can't continuously give/take reputation from someone. The forum won't let you. You will get a message box saying that you need to spread some reputation around before you can add to that persons reputation again.
Conclusion
If you have any more questions about reputation, don't hesitate to post! Any corrections or things that I have forgot, please post them, I won't get offended .
