    Default Catching Up

Hey everybody, I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and ask a few questions in the hope that I might get brought up to speed.

I'm somewhat of a forum ghost. I tend to read forums for hours, but rarely post. In the past I've been around Sythe.org, kaitnieks, and a Diablo II botting forum that was appropriately named Blizzhackers.com. I quit Runescape a while back after the mass aryan banning. I lost my pure, my miner (level 36 with 90 mining), and 4 or 5 other characters. My main is still around though, and I think its time to get back in the game.

I've used Scar in the past, mainly for fally iron mining and essence miners. I've never really written a script independantly, but I am comfortable with Scar overall and have adapted several scripts to work better for me.

I've tried using a couple scripts so far, including Ratz fighting script, which is awesome by the way, but i have a couple questions.

    - Is there a client like Sythescape (I'm pretty sure that is what it was called) that alligns the map perfectly north?
    - When running scripts does the screen resolution matter? I don't remember this being an issue with Scar, but with Diablo bots this was a big deal.
    - Am I expected to set the screen a certain way? Do most scripts run on the highest brightness setting with the map at the highest angle?
    - Are there any exceptionally good scripts that require payment. My main has a mask set (I bought it for 900k back in the day) and apparently it has gone up in value, so I would be able to pay for scripts.
    - Is there anything else I should know about in order to get scripts to work more constistantly for me, and make any scripts I write work well for others.

    -Dan

Yes, but it interferes with the client and most scripts don't need it that perfect.

I think 32 bit color matters

Yes set all your players to highest brightness. Most scripts should do the highest angle and compass angle automatically.

Yes moparisthebest.com script sales section. I believe there are other places but this is well run.

That's hard to answer other than saying read around. Failsafes and testing comes to mind.

    • There is one Client with minimap perfectly aligned and color/symbols fixed: its ScarScape. It is managed by sythe. Goto sythe for more info on that. Freddy1990 has made Scar-cient SCSS, that interacts with Scar for thing like WindowHandles / WorldSwitching / Startup, etc.
    • Screen Resolution matters a lot!. SRL uses the 32-bits ColorScheme aot. 24 or 16 bit. Set the runescape client to Low Detail and brighness for all players to Very Bright.
    • SRL has no ScriptSales division. We share scripts, and thus knowledge and vision. We enjoy reading/running a good script. We dont care too much for pixelmoney.
    • As scripting is concerned: start simple, make an autofighter. Just remember this and you will do fine: You need to look through RuneScape. You need to look at it from a procedural point-of-view. If you perform an action, whether mining a rock, cutting a tree or fishing a fish, there are all sorts of graphical signals telling you what is going on. For instance, you mine a rock until you see "You managed to mine..." (dont forget to add a failsafe(timers) inside endless loops), or you fish until your inventorycount is 28 or TimeElapsed > MaxTime. This is what I do: I reenact the script. I legit "play" the imaginary script until I have figured out its graphical logic and isolated the possible problems. Second I start to script, usually start with the hardest part, the walking or setting up a mainloop. I takes me approx. [Bone week[/B] to get it right. I always test with relatively noob Players, and once the script runs flawless, I give my higher level Players a go.

    Hope this helps.

    Default Thanks

Thanks a million for the detailed response.

I'm going to begin working on some simple stuff soon. I think I am about to start a script that will complete a quest. I'll start simple and work my way up until I can do some more complicated quests. Not the most useful scripts, but they will be fun/educational to make.

I've also started looking into implementing Autoit into scar to do all kinds of things, ranging from changing worlds to releasing and renewing my IP to change things up. Back when I made scripts for Diablo II I used autoit to change my Mac Address, resulting in a new IP. This really throws off detection, especially with multiple characters.

I'll probably begin later this week. In all due probability I'll be back with questions, so I'll talk to you guys soon.
