Like I said earlier, I'm pretty confident the article isn't about the US wanting to make open sauce illegal. It seems like this is just turning into a thread for people to say "US sucks - no more open sauce!" when it doesn't say that.

As a country it seems they want to do something about some governments pushing agencies to open sauce software rather than using the "best software available", proprietary or open sauce, making it harder for software companies to makes monies (with no real basis behind said governments reasoning), thus being anti-capitalist.

Which is also bad right now as the economy sucks. I don't see how they can enforce this though? Make the government agencies require the best software instead of free software.

Yeah turn it illegal because people writing stuff as a hobby are better than people getting laid to do it..........

I don't understand the logic behind "This software costs 5000$ thus it is superior to the free alternatives.". In many cases it's true, but the differences usually aren't that big, so if you really don't need the best software you can get then the free ones will usually suffice.

Because the economy sucks, they should be switching to FOSS. Doing so will allow the citizens to be taxed less and to therefore have more money to spend on products they actually want.

Government contracts can seriously benefit a small company though.

Of course, but if that company has a good product, it should not need the help of a government. The free market will provide it with the money it deserves.

Besides, AFAIK, governments usually contract with companies like Microsoft which already have a large, stable financial base.

No, no, they contract with small companies too. I mean, they need to have a good idea, but lots of small companies get government contracts.

Solution: Shoot the people who disagree with you.
The jealous temper of mankind, ever more disposed to censure than
to praise the work of others, has constantly made the pursuit of new
methods and systems no less perilous than the search after unknown
    lands and seas.
