Default Old laptop... What to do

Okay guys so I was at my grandparents house and my grand father gave me his old laptop that hasn't been turned on in years.

At 64mb of memory I was thinking about using it for modern warfare 2 hardcore gaming max settings...

But the 5gb hard drive limits me.

I kinda wanna reformat the hard drive but do I need the disks?

Also give me some ideas on what to use it for!

If you're good with Linux, Id suggest Gentoo. If you're going to put a new OS, thats the one to put on it.. Optimized!

It's too old for anything really. And no, you dont need any (older) discs to reformat. Normally when you put in an Operating System CD it asks if you wish to overwrite the older OS. Try googleing and see what you get, but I can't think of anything too useful :/.

I suggest just taking it apart and studying the inner workings. It might be neat to be able to compare the differences between how modern laptops are made today and how they used to be made. You could also recycle it to G-Cycle or even use it as a drink coaster/window-keeper-opener/clipboard. If all else fails, use it for all your documents and text files.

What OS is it running currently? And what is the brand?

EDIT: Yes, UTI is an Internet Provider that used to exist in his town. It was actually the first ISP in the county. It has since been shut down.

Windows ME was more fail than vista. Thats a triumph.

But running linux on it would make it actually useful. Any other OS would cripple it, not to mention probably not install..

    Millennium Edition [on Wiki]: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Me
Excerpt: "Windows Me is a continuation of the Windows 9x model, but with access to real mode MS-DOS restricted in order to speed up system boot time.[3] This was one of the most publicized changes in Windows Me, because applications that needed real mode DOS to run, such as older disk utilities, did not run under Windows Me.
Compared with other releases of Windows, Windows Me had a short shelf-life of just over a year; it was soon replaced by the Windows NT-based Windows XP, which was launched on October 25, 2001."

It was pretty much Windows 98.5.
One of my test PCs has ME.

    lol Boreas.

The only thing that I can think of is a dedicated notepad computer. That way, you can't do anything at all.

Use it as a thin client. You could connect to your desktop using terminal services. Or find a decent Linux distro that can run on 64mb ram.

Taking it apart is a crappy idea because you've got a working laptop there.

Inside it is essentially the same as a desktop with a few extras ofcourse.

Use it for something useful, don't waste it my friend.

    Peace.

Well, if it's a laptop I wouldn't use it as a server of for gaming really... It's more like a fun-to have laptop that something that will prove to be utterly useful.
Perhaps if you ever run out of computers, you could use it.

Use it for ScummVM! That way it's actually useful and you can have some fun with it
And that PC is also good enough to run a gameboy (colour) emulator at, so you can play Pokémon.
Besides there are tons of other great games around, like Wolfenstein 3d, Duke Nukem, Quake 1 also shouldn't be a problem.
I made a new script, check it out!.
