    Default Polish disaster

POLISH President Lech Kaczynski and his wife died yesterday along with dozens of others on a government delegation when their plane crashed while coming in for landing in western Russia, officials said.

The Governor of the Smolensk region, where the crash took place about 11am their time, said no one survived.

''The Polish presidential plane did not make it to the runway while landing. Tentative findings indicate that it hit the treetops and fell apart,'' Sergei Anufriev said on state news channel Rossiya-24.

    ''Nobody has survived the disaster.''

The Polish Foreign Ministry confirmed that Mr Kaczynski and his wife were aboard the plane.

Russian television broadcast live footage showing the wreckage of the plane scattered in a forest with parts of it still on fire.

The cause of the crash was not immediately clear, but reports said there was considerable fog in the area.

Mr Kaczynski was flying to Russia for events marking the 70th anniversary of the massacre of thousands of Polish officers by Soviet secret police in Katyn and elsewhere during World War II.

The Polish army chief of staff, General Franciszek Gagor, National Bank president Slawomir Skrzypek and Deputy Foreign Minister Andrzej Kremer were also on the passenger list.

In Warsaw, Prime Minister Donald Tusk called an extraordinary meeting of his cabinet.

Mr Kaczynski, 60, became president in December 2005 after defeating Tusk in that year's presidential vote.

The nationalist conservative was the twin brother of Poland's opposition leader, former prime minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski.

Mr Kaczynski had said he would seek a second term in presidential elections this year. He was expected to face an uphill struggle against parliamentary speaker Bronislaw Komorowski, the candidate of Tusk's governing Civic Platform party.

According to the constitution, Mr Komorowski would take over presidential duties.

Mr Kaczynski's wife, Maria, was an economist. They had a daughter, Marta, and two granddaughters. Russian officials said there were 96 people on board the doomed aircraft.

''According to confirmed information, there were 96 people aboard the Tu-154 that crashed near Smolensk, including 88 members of the Polish delegation,'' a spokesman for the Emergency Situations Ministry told Interfax news agency.

Just because 88 people who are government officials from YOUR country weren't killed, doesn't mean it wasn't a disaster...

I never said it wasn't a disaster. It's sad I guess. People die. But it's not like the entire world will be affected by this. :< Sorry.

It affects a whole country though. Thousands are mourning their deaths as we speak, and we are talking about the country losing A LOT of the higher ranked officials, who knows what can happen now that their gone. People with much less exp. are now moving into the office to take over, and they might screw everything up?

Very tragic loss for Poland though, R.I.P.

@i luffs yeww, this will affect all of poland, and it is possible it can affect other parts of the world as well. If one country is affected in something, a lot of others are. For example, in the 1920s, alcohol is banned in the US. Canada's people illegally smuggle alcohol over the border, bringing money into their country's economy. One country was the cause, the other took the affect.
    Cause and affect.
    This is just the cause.

People who cannot feel empathy are objects of pity, not hatred, so...

I wouldn't go so far as to call him a "horrible" person. "Horrible" people have to actually DO something horrible. He hasn't done shit, so he's just a dick. Don't make him feel special by giving him a fancy title or anything.

This is amusing. :3 Please proceed.

Here's more that you can discuss! I don't think it even matters to Poland. It will probably be a good thing. What happened when presidents in the United States were assassinated (this is also different from an accidental death)? Did everyone hate everyone else and the whole country turned into nothing? Or did people feel like they were more united because each and every one of them had something in common; grief?

Or maybe I just don't think much of others' death.

    Or I'm just a dick. :3

By the way, Dan, I always wondered if everything you used to say to me was just because it was me or if you actually felt that way. I guess I knowwww. ^^ So thanks.

Oohhh.. Your signature fits you well, by the way.

Aside from the fact that they were government officials, and religious figures on the plane, I think you should at least acknowledge the fact that 97 human beings have lost their lives. Whether or not you know them, you should at least respect them. I really doubt you would like to see someone post on a forum that they don't care/it doesn't effect(sp?) them if someone in your family has passed away.

No, that's different, because I don't matter for anything. Those people, however, did matter, and people knew them and of them and about them.

And Sebo, I don't see why anyone should feel bad for me if someone in my family dies. They should think about their life and their family and everything they should be thinking about anyway.

Of course that's not what I'm saying. :< Sorry that does make it seem confusing.

Well, i'm pretty sure there are people who would feel bad for you, because they would probably understand what you would have to go through. It's not easy losing someone close to you.

Then they can feel bad when someone in their family dies. Sorry, I just don't think it's worth the time to feel bad. :3 Be happy, brah.

Well I'm watching Saving Private Ryan (God damn I love this movie. x]), so.. have fun all. ^^ Sorry I'm not all butthurt about this. :<

I'm not too much into Polish politics, so I can't really say how good/bad thing this is. If this would've happened to finnish politicians (no matter which ones would be on the plane, really) I could easily say nothing of value was lost.

    Ian, you're a douche.

A country can easily hit rock bottom if it looses its President. Maybe there will be a massive crisis in Poland and shit hits the fan causing more of their workers to emigrate to other Eurpoean countries meaning that they will work for pittance (like they already do in the UK) meaning more people will be out of jobs to foreign workers. Cause. Effect. Think before you open your retarded mouth and say shit which you think makes some amount of sense.

Death of the president of any country is a tragedy. Now I have no humor to argue with you about it now. i luff yeww, otherwise you would write if it was the president of your country. Thanks to all those who sympathized with me, Sebo and the other our countrymen. And please, do not argue here.
