    Default Kinect (Project Natal)

    Most people knew about Project Natal, but it's now called Kinect.

    Due to come out in November, and now we have some more details on it, including games which will be Kinect compatible.

    - Gears of War 3
    - Halo Reach
    - Forza 4

    - Kinect Sports
    - Kinect Adventures
    - Kinect Joy Ride

    - And more

    Link one

    Link two

    Is anyone going to get it? I know I am, because I really like Forza, but what about you lot?

    No. You use a controller with the Wii. You don't with Kinect; you are the controller.

    I read somewhere that you can use the actual controller as well as Kinect at the same time, so they'll probably take advantage of that.

    Mehh anyone else think everytime a company comes out with a good name, they change it to something shitty?

    Revolution -> Wii
    Project Natal -> Kinect

    Fuck whoever is making up these names.

    Anyways, ehhh I don't have a console so I don't really apply. I would like to try it but I don't think it's going to be worth buying it even if I had a console. It will probably be pretty mediocre control quality for quite a while, and when they fix it, they probably will need a new Kinect system forcing you to buy a new one...

    Also, I am curious how good all the new "3d Stereoscopic" games are going to be? Crysis 2 and Ghost Recon = Full Stereoscopic plus more.

    The only ones I can think of are Minority Report (which is kind of the same), and Gamer. Gamer is awesome, by the way. I recommend it.

    Did Minority Report have gloves with lights? If so, something similar has already been done with wiimotes.

    I'm glad that Sony and Microsoft are doing this. Take away the only real reason Nintendo has been getting ridiculous amounts of sales and forcing them to not suck anymore.

    Yea, it did. In Gamer, the kid is just in the middle of a circular room (the screen being 360 degrees around him), and everything is controlled by body movements.

    "You mean you have to use your hands, that's like a baby's toy" goes the famous quote from Back To The Future II when Michael J Fox's character Marty McFly shows the kids of 2015 how to use an old arcade game.

    At the time (it was filmed in 1985) the idea of just being able to use "you" to control the actions of your character on the screen was stuff of sci-fi, only to be found in the fantasies of Hollywood. Funny then that nearly 25 years later, Hollywood would be the venue for Microsoft to launch the Kinect for Xbox 360, a motion tracking accessory for its games console.
    Another one? Straight from the first paragraph of the first link.

    That was something I thought about. Accuracy is still, and probably will continue to be an issue.

    Another thing I've thought about it the size of the room you're in. In all the video about Kinect, the players are in massive living rooms, where there is nothing to break whilst you're kicking an imaginary football. My room is not exactly tiny, but it's hardly massive either.

    I read in one of those articles (I think) that all you need is a 1x1 metre box, but that seems kind of small...

    Its true though. A 1x1 meter box is all you need. However, it does help to have more. :P

    I've got around a 2x2m box, but it's laminate. I'll have to play in bare feet or shoes or I'll be sliding all over the place LOL.

    I'm guessing you mean around your body, since most normal people are over 1 meter tall.

    That's still a really small space. I wouldn't even be able to make full movements of my arms or legs in that space, I'm quite lanky.

    Im quite lanky too. 6'3".
    Yes i meant surrounding your body, but what i think you may br missing is that even though 1x1 seems small to move around in, you can only move around so much before you lose sight of the tv screen. So yeah, it'd be hard to do a 360 spin to trigger a trick on a video game, but not many games are going to require movements that require you to turn more then 180 degrees, because anything more and you wouldnt be able to see the screen.

    ^ I'm all with this guy.

    I personally dislike driving games (say, Forza) and the only imagineable way (for me) to implement Kinect (< Nathal) into them would be to force you to sit with your fists streched out in front of you with an imaginary steering wheel, no?
    Not to sound negative, but this whole Kinect-concept seems to appeal more to the family as a whole, and ideals such as "having fun together" and "gaming can be social", and generally the "new and different experience" -- and less focus on the 'core gamer.
