Make a virus! They actually surprisingly simple in VB, but pretty fun.
VB malware is just a huge waste of time and will make you seem like an idiot.
I'll include a random suggestion to this post so it'll seem less spammy: Make an IRC client.
^ Why would it make him seem like an idiot?
Make a game!
When I took VB in highschool we were required to make a game, so i did a first person shooter. It was setup like the arcade games where the enemies just pop up and you shoot them. Then when you kill a certain amount of guys the background changes and a new level starts. It was simple yet fun.
My buddy decided not to his until last minute. So he just made a kill the chupacabra game. The chupacabra tries to reach the goat and you have to click the chupacabra before he gets there. As the game progresses it moves faster and more chupacabras show up.
edit: LOL just realized this is an old thread..sry for the rez.

I'd say that this is still bumpable. I wish there were more projects that I could think of to do to continue learning C++. :<
I may be checking out that Conquest thing and see what I can do with that.
Why not make an administration tool?
Checks things like internet connection, startup programs, the schedule etc.
Then make it work on multiple PCs, and use VMs as your proof?
Hm. Actually a cool idea, Harry. I'll think about it.
What about a rss feed reader ?
Work on simba!
Like what about Simba? My ideas for "working on it" are much different from what other people want.
Model detection would be nice, I know that it's reflection but it doesn't have to be purely Simba.
I don't know if it's possible, but it's just a suggestion
I was more looking for C++ stuff, and the thread is about VB. I think more general things would be better.
wow this is old lol
You're welcome to work on libSMART or libSimba (until I get a better name) - there isn't a repos ATM, but they're just personal projects so I can code scripts in a real IDE with a real debugger in a real language. /rant...
EDIT: Eph. So old....
Interested in C# and Electrical Engineering? This might interest you.
