Default Don't wanna be a leecher forever!

(already posted this in kindergarten so apologies for the repeat, just wasn't sure where it needed to be)
Hi, I am sick of being a leecher... no-one has accused me yet but i feel it in my heart and know it to be a sad truth.
Therefore the only way to gain back my self-respect is to learn scar/srl and write the worlds greatest script ever (yes yes i know, its not likely but at least i'm willing to try unlike most leechers).
I've looked at various tutorials and help pages and there are some things i just don't get, this is most likely due to my complete lack of programming knowledge (computers weren't really high on my school syllabus as they were still pretty basic way back).
If someone could please please please take pity on my poor tortured soul and tell me which tutorial is best for a complete newbie (a kind of 'idiots guide') and also tell me which computer language is best to learn (i work at a university and therefore have extensive access to a large library) then i can get cracking with my script el magnifico (tm)
I'm a busy man but what i lack in free time i certainly make up for in sleep deprivation.
Thanks in advance for any help and as always, may the schwartz be with you.

[edit] Just found bebemycat2 and WhoCares357 's tutorials and think they should get me started.

The best way to learn SCAR, or the best way I learned SCAR was to keep writing scripts. Start to write simple scripts and then try writing scripts that are not so "simple". A good way to learn how to write better scripts is to look at other GOOD peoples scripts. When you look at other peoples scripts look at how they use there procedures and functions, etc.. You'll learn more doing that then just looking at other peoples tuts, but thats just how I learned. The SRL manual is also a lot of help. Download that and take a look at it because if your trying to make a procedure or function of some sort, most likely the SRL manual has the name of that procedure or function. Just some tips.

I started by making a simple auto-talker... then i would copy and paste functions and things from other peoples scripts to make scripts and learn about the procedures. Then i would start writing my own. It worked for me . BUT ALWAYS ASK PERMISSION FROM THE SCRIPTER BEFORE COPYING FUNCTIONS!

often times scar can be easy to get into but the depth of understanding only goes so far. Try this tutorial. To be honest i only followed it through recursion when my brain exploded. But it will give you a good foundation of syntax and of certain things you will be using in SCAR just with a different emphasis. Hope this helps!

    BTW: thats the best tutorial
