backup everything you want to keep, then reinstall a fresh copy (always best to do a fresh copy)

as for whether your computer can handle it, yes, but you might want to upgrade your ram at sometime, unless you plan on doing small, ram friendly tasks on it

bottom line, you can run it, but maybe think about upgrading your ram, but try it first and se if your happy with the speed before you go buy some more

I have looked up reviews and they said there is no speed difference in 1GB of ram. Currently I have found none with less speed than they had before.

well when i had 1GB RAM it was slow, AMD Athlon 4400+ 2.3GHz with 1GB DDR RAM and it was slow to me (could just be me though)

but like i said, try it and if you think it is too slow then upgrade the ram, its DDR anyway so it wont be expensive, about £10/GB

    ~shut

    EDIT: now i have AMD Athlon 4400+ 2.3GHz with 2GB DDR2 800MHz RAM

DDR Ram is only 10 bucks? I will need 1 GB Ram card and another 1GB ram card because I have only 2 slots.

I ran a scan in Crucial.com and it said: Q: What memory goes into my computer, and can I mix speeds?

A: DDR memory with support for DDR PC2700,DDR PC3200 speeds.

What I got right now is DDR PC3200 2 of those which are 512mb

EDIT: So wouldn't this be apropriet: http://cgi.ebay.com/PC3200-1GB-DDR-S...ht_2576wt_1137

Why do people switch for the looks... (Or rather, why do people find Windows 7 to be pretty)
If you want serious eye candy, Windows 7 isn't going to cut it.

I probably posted a few in the "post your desktop" thread. I didn't customize the window buttons there, but that is obviously possible too. I switch from using a dock to not using a dock, but I find them kinda useful at times. The 3d cube and 3d windows (on the cube) + the expo features are very useful too, IMO. (I'm talking about compiz obviously)

No no.. XP to Windows 7 is definitely a upgrade.

If it was vista... well maybe then I would agree.

I found that XP uses less resources and runs smoother. The only reason I would use Windows 7 is for DirectX 10/11. (For gaming, the only thing you should Windows for anyway)

I find an operating system that requires far more resources and contains a lot more bloat while not offering me an significant changes or functionality (same windows garbage wrapped in new eye candy) to be a downgrade.

To sum up my point, get a real operating system (i.e. *nix)

Tiny7 is wayyyy better than Windows7.

I've never had a problem and it always runs smooth, and I still have Ubuntu on here too.

I would recommend that to anyone wanting Win7

Like a bootleg version of Windows7 that has all the bloat removed.

I got it via torrent if you want to search for it.

I'd rather used the one you used . Plus do I have to backup everything? Is it just like a regular installation of a new system? Formatting installing blah blah blah.
