There are different methods to remove an operating system; the best choice is dependent on how it was installed. Do you have both OS's on their own partitions?

Run the ubuntu live cd again and use Gparted to delete the windows NTFS partition and extend the ext4 partition on which Ubuntu is installed. Be very careful with gparted though.. You may then need to change some stuff in the grub config files, but I dont think it flips out if you delete the Windows partition.

Won't you also have to deal with bootloader issues?

grub is the boot loader :| I stated you may or may not have issues with it. If you do, then just use the live cd, mount the /boot partition, and change the grub config files.

You can delete the Windows Partition with GParted (without the livecd), then boot into the livecd and resize your ubuntu partition to fit the full harddisk.

Also, you want to consider openoffice instead of MS Office Word in wine.

I'd advise you to keep win7 for a while, until you are sure you've got everything you need on ubuntu It takes a while getting used to, so having windows around for any urgent task can be very helpful. Or to play games

i heard that running OS X is most common on netbooks, if you want to you should try that :P

It always confuses me why people go into wars about how we got here, and where we go when we die.

Now if OS X would actually be useful and not locked down...?

I wouldn't get involved with OS X at all. It's not a very good operating system from what I've seen. I've tried using it for daily work but it's not that easy.

For what it does, Windows is a very good option. It gives the user the most amount of enterprise products and services, very easily and effectively. Now, I use Linux more than I do Windows, but if you're not comfortable with Linux, you shouldn't use it.

I am in no way fluent with Linux, so I dual boot. I'm sure that even if I was Linus, I'd dual boot. Windows does have it's benefits.

(I'm suggesting to avoid OS X and dual boot Linux (Ubuntu would be the best for you, most likely) and Windows 7 (blah blah, XP is better, no. It's never a good idea in todays world to use older products when you have newer options, as they won't be supported for very long at all.).)

Not too good for the average user. It's a bit like Gentoo but without the awesome package manager features. You'll still have to pretty much create your system yourself though.

It was great when I used it. I got tired of system maintenance and eventually accidently replaced all my config files and screwed it up. Its very light though.

It's just gentoo without the compiling and versatility of package management with slots and versions...

He may have never heard of Gentoo or have no idea what Gentoo is like, so I explained it a tad more explicitly.

Decent. I use it. It's pretty stable once you have it running. It's lightweight too. It's a lot easier than Gentoo, and the Wiki is as detailed as Gentoo. But running non-free stuff (including WINE) is a pain in the butt. So if you only use free software in the pacman repos and are decent at reading the Wiki, you should be fine with it.
