    Default Computer Build

Hey, I'm going to buy a new computer soon, this is a build my friend made for me.
(I'm going to remove the wifi, CD/DVD Drive, and the Game Card thingy on the bottom making it about 870$ before tax/shipping).

I currently have a 2.8Ghz Pentium 4 With 1G of DDR Ram and integrated graphics (96 MB I think?) So obviously it's about time for an upgrade.

I never really computer game, because I can't with such a low speced comp, so that's what this computer will be for.

I guess my price range is about 800-900$ but CHEAPER WOULD BE A LOT NICER!

Here is the build that he made for me

I want 4G ram and Video Card that can run most games on decently high settings, but not TOO pricy, and mid-tower size. That's all I really care about I guess, so make the best you can between $800-900. Try not to deviate too much from the current build UNLESS you can provide a good reason/price why!

    Thanks Guys.
I'm ready for the shitstorm of over 9000 different builds coming my way, AHH!

Looks pretty nice. You could go a bit cheaper and still get something decent

You can go waaayyyy cheaper on the mobo and ram. You might want to overclock if you're going with that cpu. You could also go cheaper on the psu. The gpu looks good, as does the case.

Depending on what you're going to do, you may be better buying a high end 4 core CPU (like my AMD Phenom II X4 3.4GHz [BE]). I'm very jealous of how cheap you can get that GPU, in the UK the cheapest 6870 is £180.63, with the more decent ones hitting £200 and beyond.

Next time I upgrade, does someone who lives in the US want to buy me some, and I'll pay deliver? :P

Yeah I was kind of wondering about this.
Should I go with my 2.8 Six core? Or get something like a 3.2 or higher Four core? What do you all think?

Yeah I know the ram is pricy/overkill but i think I'll just stick with it.
I think my friend just chose the mono because it came bundled wig the processor and it had a deal with it.

    Thanks everyone for tr suggestions.

This is what i recently built for my GF who wanted a new PC

you should be able to shave of quite a bit of cash from it.

Like Blue ray drive, Solid State Drives (very nice though) only go for one graphics card, and so on

To be honest, if I were to build a new pc now, I would definitely go with a Sandy Bridge CPU. In your price range for example i5-2400.

First of all it has better benchmark results than the x6 1055T. Secondly, it has better performance/price ratio. Thirdly it consumes less power, so less heat. Lastly, you get the added benefit of having an extra GPU, which, if you combine it with an nVidea card with Optimus technology, appears to be a very feasible combination.

But that would throw your whole setup around. But I thought I'd just give you my 2 cents.

no unless you consider the sims 3 a game..... she tried to make me jealous of it, so i would get a job (just finished Uni and cant find anything decent)
i play on it alot as well its very nice, i really do like the Solid State Drives, even just for a OS boot, its brilliantly quick

blue ray is mostly so we can watch movies on it, that i set to the TV by using a HDMI cable

Definitely buy a Sandy Bridge CPU if you are going to buy right now... The hexacore CPUs from AMD are almost never worth it, especially if you just play games. Unless you plan on doing some sort of highly parallel work (video encoding, rendering) than just stick to a quad core.

Yeah, but the processor I picked has AMAZING reviews and a pretty decent price for what it is, and this AMD can easily be overclocked to 3.5+ with the stock sink.

If you go for the hexcore, then I might have to link you something about the previous flagship AMD processor (recently a very slightly better one was released):

    I recently bought this from Newegg.ca: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231314
    8gb (2x4gb) DDR3 1600 RAM for $110.

It's twice the amount of RAM, with only slightly lower timings, for $10 less. I remember, when I initially bought the parts for my current computer, that product was worth $250. ^^

The only thing your comp will be missing is an SSD.

Well if it's referring to this:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115074

It costs $14 more than the 6 core, and is 3.1GHz
The AMD is $14 cheaper, 6 cores, and can be overclcoekd to 3.5Ghz+, so wouldn't that be kind of better?

    I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING OK?!

And Richard, what are you trying to say I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING!

The 2600k can overclock up to 4.8GHz on air.

And forget about cores man, seriously. Cores only matter if you have highly parallelized software. If you buy a PC right now, buy a sandy bridge. AMD won't have anything out till summer.

You'd want much tighter timings than that if you're gaming.

I love these Discussions because it will all ways end up as a Intel v AMD fan boys.

Face it each has there own advantages and disadvantages, i prefer AMD because they are cheap, good quality and overclock well. i dont buy intel anymore because the last system i built using there stuff broke shortly after the one year mark.(this happened twice actually, and no i wasn't stupid with it no overclocking ect)

Here is the link about my PC i built for my GF, it has AMD and Intel version for about the same price Click Here

This has nothing to do with Intel vs AMD. Intel released their new processors, AMD did not. So the choice is really simple. If you want to build a pc with an AMD CPU, you should wait about 6 months (Bulldozer). Ohterwise go for intel.

And no I'm not intel fanboy, just compare the available CPU's.

I would honestly recommend the AMD Phenom II X6 1095T, thats what I'm going to get. I currently have the AMD Phenom II X4 955BE.

if you want to save some cash go for the 1075, its cheaper and can overclock to the speed of the 1095, but yeh not overly important.

    also you got SSD yet?

It is the best for a OS Drive, i just cant get over it, sorry. (not pointed at you just in general)

I don't have at the moment, mainly because they are a bit pricey. But yeah, going to get few of those too.

    *drools over ssd*

Bulldozer is said to be a ridiculous improvement over current processors and will come with oct-core standard. Thats a nice step up if you ask me.
