Default Risks of buying a Used motherboard?

So because im a cheap ass mofo. I bought me a Phenom 9950 BE. From what i understand they can range from 125w-140w for mobos.

Im using a ECS GeForce7050m-m (look it up its ancient)

Im afraid this mobo is going to go out. I dont know what type of 9950 i have because there are 2 kinds. The 125 and the 140. So basically there are only a few mobos out there and there VERY hard to get your hands on because there deactivated according to Tigerdirect and Newegg.

So.. I looked on ebay. And little did i know someone bought the board in December of 2009 and has never overclocked it. Acording to him. He has 100% sell rating and he has about 5 other auctions up all parts from his old computer (cpu, memory, and the mobo)

    I need the mobo and well i won it for 47.00. Its a Biostar 790GX DDR2 motherboard - TA790GXE 128M.

This thing is truly a beauty for it age.

They average between 80-120 still and i got it roughly at half the price. (was actually 36.00 but shipping was $10 :/ )

So do you think i got a good deal? Do you think its faulty?

I emailed him before i bidded on it (3 days ago) and he said hes selling his old computer to upgrade to a DD3 type system. Fair enough.

All his other stuff looked good too but i didnt bid on it.

My question to you guys. Have you used this board? Do you think i go jiped?

I'd say you got ripped but not because a used motherboard is inherently a bad choice but your money would have went further just buying a new system IMO.

The health of the mobo depends on stuff like average case temperature and if he smoked.

Hurts all type of media storage (HDDs, DVDs and BDs). Discolours your monitor, keyboard and mouse. Makes your stuff smell like shit (in my opinion of course ).

And I know Apple was under fire for some of their employees refusing to work on warranty claims because they claimed the smoke residue was harmful to their health a while back.

    Um wat?

This mobo is compatible with AM3 so if i wanted to i can just get a new psu in the long run?

the only down side is i will still be using DDR2 ram.

its 16x 2.0 and i dont think this guy has every ran the mobo hard. And since he bought it late December i doubt it went bad since then.

We shall see when it comes in. If it sucks its covered by ebay warranty and we shall see how that goes.

    Cool.

But yeah, AMD's new Bulldozer CPU's won't use the same socket. So only reason why I say that...

It actually supports Am3+ and it has the latest drivers for the AMD 6 core.

This is one of the VERY few that supports 140w TD, which is why i chose it in the first place.

Many only go up to 95w TD.
