Default Old autoer returning to SRL

Hello once again SRL, i used to auto a few years ago and thought i should reintroduce myself now that i have decided to start autoing again. I dont really remember how to do much anymore, but i still know how to script in a few other languages, hopefully i will be able to start writing my own scipts after not too long.

and if its not off topic, what has changed in the last few years, looking through the forums quickly i see alot of new terms im not familiar with anymore. and is autoing still as effective/safe as it used to be with all the graphics updates of the last few years?

It would probably be easier if you posted what you are unfamiliar with. A good place to start if your just returning is the How to Auto section. It has had a lot of updates and can probably help you with most questions you might have. SIMBA is our program wrote by this community to script and maximize the potential to script. Reflection is also another way of scripting that has seen a lot of work lately you might want to check their Sub-Forums for Information on that topic. MSI is a Do it all script that is being worked on as a community effort. Like with reflection please check their sub-forums for information. Welcome Back and Good Luck.

yeah i understand MSI, and look forward to using it. so has simba basically replaced scar as the core program now? reflection i still dont quite get even after reading its sub-forum though, does it work by directly modifying the code and data of the runescape client or something? also, i remember when i left, SMART was just started to get adopted and looked very promising if it worked, has it made any decent progress since?

Yep, simba is the new scar. Reflection is basically just reading directly from the client, not modifying it. Smart is now very good because we don't have to lose control of our mouse

Thanks alot for that succinct explanation, like Thomas I still couldn't understand what reflection and smart was all about. By the welcome Thomas

On that note, I have another question, every-time RS updates, reflection breaks right? Is it still possible to auto during that period or would one still have to wait for a new update to reflection?

If you are using a Reflection based script you have to wait til Reflection gets updated. Color based Scripts which still are a core technique around here. Those Scripts will work unless they are for a specific area that got a big update. Such as changing the Vials shape and color might break a herblore script.

Glad I could be of some help. Unfortunately its not possible to auto with reflection when it breaks, but you can still use smart and color.

Welcome back, I have a feeling a lot of this will be happening in the near future. =)

It's worthy to note however that reflection doesn't exactly break every time RS is updated (the updates aren't that ugly), they just need new hooks. A member of the forums pyroryan has a hook updater, and he is usually pretty fast about updating the hooks and updating the SVN with every update.
