Default Most fail I ever had with Windows 7

So I regulary re-format my computer when i feel that its starting to bog down with spyware/virus(s)/trojan(s) etc.

Recently i have been dealing with my cpu constantly running at 100% for noooooooooooo reason. Really. I open diablo 2 and bam 100% full time.

It would only be at 30% before on my quad core. Even with one simba open it sky rockets to 100%. This is not usual as i used to always have 2-3 up while playing diablo 2. lol

So im stuck in this situation. Everytime my computer comes back from a restart it goes into the starting servics window that windows 7 has and it starts doing shit and message comes up saying "Windows did not install correctly press "ok" to restart the system and began again."

But i have done this 20 times and the same message keeps comeing up with no other options.

I already tried re-installing windows 7 with no graphics card.

only 2gb of ram instead of 4.
    Disabled sound card.

So basically i have connected. USB mouse, USB keyboard and my USB that contains windows 7 and of course my hardrive.

My valid conclusion i can come to is my Windows 7 some how along the way got corrupted. So i already got me a fresh copy and im going to try it when i get home.

Another conclusion, is my new mobo. I bought a new mobo off of ebay and i think this may be the reason, even though i have already used it for 1 week.

If the 2 above fail im going to swap mobos and try again.

If all that fails. Im going to revert back to xp, wait for a while to buy a new hardrive and get a new one.

This HD is at LEAST 8 years old. And its only a 80gb so i believe its time to get a 500gb AT LEAST.

If anyone has any ideas or has dealt with this before leave a reply below.

Diablo 2 runs your CPU at 100% it has since 2000 when it came out :P
Unless the new 1.13 changed that which blizzard seems lazy with D2

but it's very strange that simba kicks it up there.

    Bad iso?
    Try reformatting (not reinstalling) Winblows.
I mean like completely wipe the drive, make new partition etc.

i am reformatting my computer. I do this every 3-5 months. Last year i did 7 times.

Diablo II never has ran 100 on my computer. it only goes up to 35-40%

Its not a heavy power consumption game. have you looked at the requirements to play the game?

My quad core and graphics cards eats them for breakfeast.

None the less none of the replys contrast to the problem im having.

Try using some utilities like Kill Disk. To low-format your whole hard drive.
    Then install Fresh Win 7.

Google diablo 2, I've played since Diablo 1

Google "diablo 2 100% cpu usage"

You'll see many posts such as:

lately , i found out that diablo takes up 99-100% of my cpu while playing the game. though i don't lag ,it heats up my pc ( which is a new one ) , resulting in exesive noise coming from the cpu fan :sad2:
It's going to use most of your computer resources pretty much no matter what. I wouldn't worry about it.
    and thousands more like it.

I know what D2's requirements and recommendations are, the fact is it has always ate CPU usage no matter how good your computer is

    here's an example

    http://forums.battle.net/thread.html...29372&sid=3000

From the looks of it, the 1.13 patch did reduce diablos 100% cpu usage (no matter what) similar to what they did with Starcraft, though I'm not 100% sure

I think you should get a new hdd anyways. I dont know how it works in Windows, but in linux if you have a slow hdd and try a lot of IO your load average will shoot up, simply because the system is waiting for the IO to finish.

Not much to say past what's already been said, other than recommending that you buy an SSD instead of an HDD.

no not yet. Thought about it. But it seems that 2 copys of 7 arent being capable with my new mobo. Im going to install xp. Update all drivers (again) and try to do 7. if not im going to stick to xp until im tired of it and buy a new HD where i will install windows 7.

Do you know a good link for tiny7? I dont want it to have hidden bots.

Something similar happened to me, try opening up you task manager ->click performance tab ->then resource monitor at the bottom ->click CPU tab at the top, you should then see a list of processes and their average cpu usage(this column is to the far right), if you have anything over 10 in that colum and it doesn't sound like something to do with simba/diablo then its probably causing the problem.

I don't have the one I got it from anymore, but I'll look for a good one for you and PM it to you.

I love it honestly. My system dual boots Ubu and Tiny7 and I've never even used Ubu since I got Tiny7

If you have any extra RAM/more than one stick, try using a single stick of ram in your first RAM slot.

This is definitely a hardware issue. You might think about building a new pc? You could get better performance out of a sub $400 machine, as you obviously don't need to replace all of the components.

    Finally someone agrees with me.

I do too, im just so much of a lazy ass to take it apart (again) i just installed it last week.

Right now i found a Tiny7. Dont worry about it NCDS :P It probably has bots and shit, but its only temperary till i buy a new hd.

@smartz i already tried that. I downgraded from 4 to 2 to 1 no difference it made in the installation process.

Just to get everyone on track. I have no access to Taskmanager or anything. As far as i can go is the setup screen to install windows 7 or to my bios.

I checked to see if i underclocked and to make sure of that i reset everything to defaults.

I even tried to install windows7 when it was at a 2% overclock. No sucess.

This is my last try. As i speak Tiny7 "setup is starting" If this doesn't work. Im taking out the mobo putting the old one back in, and going all the way back to step 1. (Original installation of Windows 7)

I may just do tiny7 as i have been reading up on for the past 6 hours.

This is the longest i have EVER spent on formatting. This really is a fail from Microsoft and after reading all the bugs and problems that people had had with this OS, makes me think that they shouldnt have released it.

(Screen flickered just right now, uh oh. Setup is still running though)

I will continue to post updates on this most fail format i have encountered.

Thank you everyone for your sugesstions as i am trying them all, aside from the ones that tell me to check my cpu %, blah blah.

Because clearly they didnt read the first post right.

Tiny7 failed on trying to update with the new mobo.

I swapped mobos and im trying again. I really hope this is the problem. Wish me luck.

Edit: good news everyone. I got windows 7 tiny working.

What i think happened was my USB keyboard kept turning off during the installation of the NEW mobo.

On the old one i noticed it doing this and it didnt not effect teh installation.

I THINK thats why the new mobo kept restarting it must have detected it disconecting. Strange.

    Im back in business now

Tiny7 really won't save your CPU or anything. Just some RAM and HDD.

no its not. Its a usb keyboard i think it affected the installation. But i dont think it did now.

I think my cpu amd 9950be and the mobo dont go well together. I've been reading around alot.

My mobo is now in its case again.
