Default Is this a good overclock?

Trying to push my little CPU just so it can be ready for my new 5770 for my ultimate gaming experience.

I want to get it to 3.6 but amd overdrive isnt letting me.

This is far as i can go.

I can push to 3.2 but when i do stability test it stops so i have to put it back to this.

    Help!

That processors stock is like 2.6 or .8 right?

How good is your cooling? 3.2 isn't bad at all

    The stock is at 2.6

My cooling is exeptional. At stock cooling my tempatures go from 28-32. On max load can sometimes hit 40 but averages at 37-38

Decent cooling, I'd stay at 3.2 if those are your temps

You have no idea why it stops you from going higher? Possibly just the heat...?

Usually 40C is a good temp when overclocked, I guarantee you won't have any lag problems on games running a quad core at 3.2ghz...(with a 5770) unless it's your internet

its not heat. My system crashes at 3.3 and at 3.2 its not very stable.

I dont know what it is as i have SEEN some people hit 3.3-3.5

Im thinking its the timings of my ram. But im not sure

    Ah hmm...

Can your motherboard bus's handle it? If your heat output is low I would think it was motherboard problems over ram, no?

just because.. people over clock their cpu's out the roof without touching ram

just so you know software overclocking is not as good a manual bios overclocking.

if you know how to do bios overclocking try that, you should be able to get it higher like the ones you read about.

dont get me wrong software overclocking is good for inexperienced overclockers

Oh he's using software? Thought cpu-z just shows specs of your computer

yea I wouldn't ever do it through software

My cpu at 3.4 is 40 under load, that's his temp at 2.6

I'm not using any fancy liquid cooler or anything either, and I see a lot of people posting about overclocking & their temps being even lower, so I don't think it should go up there to 50-60 that's like pre-built dell computer temp

Yeah exactly lol, you're running nice a cool

intel and amd processors today can handle even up to like 80-100C (depending on processor) but you don't want to do that.. ever ... lol

    CPUID hardware monitor

they also make CPU-Z which OP had posted

if your motherboard / cpu has sensors for everything you'll see a very detailed chart

Or you can just use Core temp.

Ill just leave it at 3.1 and see how it runs for a couple of weeks. then ill try giving some more juice.

No, not even close. Unless by processors you mean GPU's.

80C is high enough that most motherboards would automatically shut down.

Most AMD chips cant go over 60c for too long..

Do you use fan cooler ? and if so how much rpm does it get up to?, my cpu is on 3ghz and when i run it on max it gets to 66 celsius each core, so im wondering of if its worth overclocking at all , or if it woud underclock when it gets to 75 or something like that.

Is that 66C idle or at load?

Idle, you may want to clean out any dust or buy a better case/heatsink. If it's at load that sounds better, it's still a little high though. Mid 50s is a good amount to aim for at load imo. Anything more and I don't overclock further.

But it also depends a lot on the CPU, you can literally boil water off a P4 but if any modern CPU's got that hot they'd probably die.

My cpu is an athlon x4 it used to idle at 32C but now its in the 47s, and mid 50s under load.

How high they can go without destroying themselves is different than high how till the motherboard shuts down

a big majority of the factory bought computers from dell idle at like 65C

but yea, amd can't get nearly as hot as intel

Here is a screenie for you guys can look at Full load.

Im only using AMD overdrive to show that its full load and the temps as well as you can see in the left hand corner the temps and the clock speed. Will be pushing to 3.3 soon.

use prime95 to stress your cpu and overclock your cpu through bios. I do like amd overdrive for monitoring it though.
