    Default Lag!!

Okay so first off I want to say I'm not good with computers at all. Actually I'm terrible, I couldn't tell you what type of laptop I have, it's ram and stuff like that.

I try to run MSI on my laptop and every time it lags up! Smart freezes up so I can't get any botting done. I was powercutting and after it clicked the first tree, boom! froze!

I'm broke and my parents won't buy me a new computer or laptop until right before i go off to college. Over a year from now.

I just wanted to say I hate my laptop! oh and if anyone has any advice to speed it up, please tell me! Or if you wanted to, you could run my army for me !!

Start Menu -> Run -> msconfig -> startup tab -> Disable All (or whatever you'd like)

The above helps significantly if you've never done it before, or haven't in a while.

Also, there are a lot of setting on MSI you can turn off (Debug, SMARTDebug, etc.) that should increase speed significantly.

Well, what you just did prevents your computer from loading all those programs on startup.

If you care to go through and manually clean up your drives I'm sure that would help a bit as well.

Just disabling all your startup shit may cause trouble in the end. I suggest you download a program like CCleaner which can do the same for you but you get to pick which ones to disable and which ones to leave. Run CCleaner once a month or so.

Also, usually it says ON the laptop what brand/model it is so unless you're blind I guess you could give that? :P

You can choose what to disable on the msconfig window as well.

I have an HP Pavilion dv1000. And I'm currently running CCLeaner. I'll see how it does.

EDIT* CCLeaner seemed to help me out a ton, uninstalled a bunch of useless junk. Significant improvement. Rep +

You may want to run a few malware/spyware programs such as Malwarebytes Anti Malware, SpyBot Search & Destroy. I have a whole lineup I use for computer repair.

Also make sure your Anti Virus is up to date - If you don't have one AVG is a decent free Anti Virus.

    Also try

Start > my computer > right click your hard drive ( drive C:/ is the standard) > Tools

Run Error-Checking, sometimes your hard drive may get dirty or damaged, this will attempt to find and recover any dirty/damaged sectors on your hard drive. Also run Defragmentation in the same tool menu as error checking - should be right below it. Defragmentation frees space on your hard drive by physically organizing the contents of your hard drive in a contigeous manner - it compacts the fragments of data into one big chunk! (Think of a trash compactor inside your computer :P)

Also, if you're feeling up to the task - take apart your laptop (I would highly recommend using a screw map - Draw out the layout of your laptop and mark out where all the screws go, then tape them to the correct spot. Makes reassembly a breeze) and literally clean it out, either using compressed air, dustoff, or just cleaning it. Pay special attention to CPU Cooling fan(s).

You may also try freeing up space on your hard drive (deleting programs you don't use etc.), if you don't have very much memory left, that could cause slowing.

One more - You could check how much physical memory RAM you have available on your PC, CTRL + ALT + DEL you will get the task manager - you will see 5 tabs within the task manager, click on 'Performance' tab. At the bottom you will see Physical Memory (K) the K meaning in kilobytes (1000 kilobytes = 1 megabyte)

If your available physical memory is low, you should start collecting cans for a new computer :P

I hope any of this helped or helps you or anyone else who has lag, and I hope that my computer repair knowledge is useful !

Depending on how you define speed I'm sure there are things that windows does better while I'm sure there are things that Ubuntu does better.

Generally though I would say Ubuntu(and Linux in general) is faster and a lot less resource consuming.

In the aspects that you just listed then yes Ubuntu is far faster than windows 7 imo.

Even still my Ubunbtu boots in less than 30 seconds and my current system isn't impressive in the least.

To compare that, I have windows 7 on a dual boot on this computer and it takes about 60 seconds to boot.

Give linux a try, you won't regret it
