Default Converting low bitrate to higher bitrate?

So if I have a song that is in in 192kb/s bitrate and then I convert it to 320kb/s, will that actually increase the quality? It doesn't really make sense to me how one could gain more quality from a lower quality file by converting it. I would think that one would only be able to convert down in quality rather than up, but maybe not.

You think correct.. you're not going to get better quality.. you'll get a louder song usually... on good decks / systems higher bit rates will play louder, which is why most have balance settings to keep everything playing at 128bits (or whatever you set it as)

It's impossible to increase the audio quality

Imagine it like this, you can download 1 Mb a second, and the website your downloading a file from, can upload 1Mb a second.

Now you upgrade your internet to 2Mb, the server can only give you 1Mb.

The song will sound no better, and may have a larger file size, I don't think it will us the other Kb/s, but it might do.

I think this just increases the base volume or the increase in volume when you raise the sound level. I noticed a difference between 192k and 320k songs on my stereo on my truck, but only in 'loudness'. I could be wrong be, but I think that's the biggest difference between the two.

    Current projects:
[ AeroGuardians (GotR minigame), Motherlode Miner, Blast furnace ]

"I won't fall in your gravity. Open your eyes,
you're the Earth and I'm the sky..."

That's what I was thinking, but I figured maybe there was a magical fairy in my computer or something that might make this work. Thanks for the quick responses

naw, that's about the only difference there is when increasing it, decks for cars

    deck=

they'll have settings to increase the 'loudness' which just increases the bits etc

after too much the song sounds like shit btw

In fact, re-encoding any lossy compression scheme (such as mp3, any video you will probably ever play) will result in a loss of quality, regardless of the bitrate used. So just don't do it

This, unless you want to get the FLAC file and re-encode it once to .mp3, that is what I do and it is probably the best quality you can get from .mp3 imo
