Default SRL Wiki closed until further notice

I spoke to nielsie95 about the wiki and for now I think it's best to close the wiki. It was currently not editable and it mainly contained information that was not at all recent.

Personally I think it's best to stick to threads on the forum and the separate SRL documentation (and separate Simba documentation). You can find both in their respective git repositories if you want to contribute.

Comments, questions on the move, feedback etc are welcome. I still think it's very important to have a documentation system to which we can all contribute. The wiki was very useful because it was so easily to quickly write an article or modify existing ones. At least compared to the SRL (and Simba) Documentation now on http://docs.villavu.com So I'd really like some input on what you guys (and girls) think would make more people contribute to that documentation. And if you think there are reasons people don't, mention them. If you think the wiki (or another system) is a lot better, be sure to mention it.

The information is not lost and I'll make sure to archive it somewhere later.

The best way to contact me is by email, which you can find on my website: http://wizzup.org
I also get email notifications of private messages, though.

well if you are someone like me, you had no idea we had a wiki.

as for the documentation, what do you want people to contribute?

Wiki was down for a long time and was badly needing updates. Truly wiki was an easy system to navigate for new user and gave them a familiar resource to use. I'd like it if Wiki came Back.

@bolshak25 check the top of the main forum page it's listed.

I wouldn't mind adding explanations to the TPA functions in the docs. Just don't know how add things to the docs.

There's some information here, http://docs.villavu.com/simba/docdoc.html although I admit it could be a bit more friendly. The markup is mainly just... text. Nothing fancy, only the output will be fancy. I'll be happy with documentation/patches of any kind, you won't need to make sure it builds yourself and all the syntax is correct, I'll take care of that.

BraK, yes. But it was currently very outdated and generally a mess. Most of the links were broken and tutorials outdated. I think it's very possible we can revive it later but we'll need a group of wiki maintainers. (I'm about to propose the same for the srl/simba etc documentation)

The wiki was nice when I first started scripting because it described how certain functions could be used directly in a Runescape script along with examples. The documentation features more concise technical descriptions of what the functions do, so you have to come up with ways they can be used in Runescape yourself.

I like the documentation, because whatever info that I [sometimes] can not find on the forum[without making a help thread], I can find in the doc.

I like Wiki because it's easier to edit, I also like the layout better (just personal preference), but I would rather have the documentation we have now because it should always be up to date since it's created from the source code. Since Wiki is separate, it gets forgotten when updates are made.

So, keep the current documentation over a Wiki. I'm also going to look at the theme thread now which I think will make a lot of people prefer the documentation. Also sounds like we need to make the links more obvious, which I had planned on talking to you about for the re-organization anyway.

If we were to go with Wiki, we'd need some dedicated people who will keep it updated. If we go with the current documentation, the developers keep it updated when updates are made.

I'd work on the Wiki Team, But I still need to finish my current project in Tutorial Island. I'd be willing to do it all the same or manage it.

I'd help in whatever I can. Just that you'd have to let me know and give me some time during school months.
