    Default How many runescape ticks?

    http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Tick

The RuneScape clock is a term that is used to refer to the time-frame used for actions in RuneScape. RuneScape runs on units of time of approximately 0.6 seconds which are sometimes called "ticks." All actions are a multiple of this basic tick time. This includes any instant where a message appears in the chat interface, any instant that experience is gained, any instant that a monster spawns, and any other actions a player performs, including animations (hence players being able to perform animations in sync with eachother rather easily). Purely client sided occurences are independent of the game tick (i.e. loading new regions).
Do anyone know how long (how many ticks) it takes to mine rocks with the different types of pickaxes?

I have searched on a lot of guides and forums, but I still haven't figured out anything...

I know for a fact that mining Iron with a rune pickaxe takes 1 runescape tick

There has to be more to it than luck. The skill level has to play into it at some point or some super lucky lowbie could get your or at 99 mining....

Almost nothing really, the only big differences are when you get new picks.

Some things are worse than others of course. Coal isn't so bad, but mithril and adamant are pretty bad.

If I had to put number on it I'd say it's 80% luck or something stupid like that. Mining level being "worthless" has been a rant/complaint for a long time.

Mining level does count... It takes less time for a level 99 miner with a bronze pickaxe to mine a copper ore, than it takes for a level 1 miner with a bronze pickaxe.. That's what I believe though..
We could run some tests if anyone's up for it?

I dont think mining lvl does much in terms of the time taken to mine an ore, i think it affects the probability of getting an ore within x ticks. Because back in the days when there were few bots, i remember beating a lvl 95~ mining dude at getting gold ore(550 gp) even though i only had 65~ mining.

This is because your ping to the server is lower than that of his.. So you have priority over him in getting the rock.. I always got blue drags before guys who could one click in my home world because their pings to the server was quite high compared to mine.

I learned about that and the ticks from bugabuse.. Mining lvl does have a huge factor and so does world population but ping also contributes aswell.

The only thing ping affects is how fast the server gets the command that you clicked a rock. That is important for beating people at monster spawns but not at mining ore because only one person can attack a NPC while as many people as possible can mine a ore.

Only thing world population changes is how fast the rocks respawn. PID used to matter and was a big reason why a level 40 miner could beat a level 99 miner but Jagex said they updated RS to be less dependent on PID.

I remember Jagex even said that they wanted to update mining to be less random, I can't find anything on the forums because most of the rants now are about bots.

How it works is, every tick you roll some die. If your rolls are high enough you get the ore/logs. So yes, higher mining does help but you'll still find yourself being beat by lower level players simply because they rolled better numbers. On average you'll mine faster, but that's about it.

Ping has nothing to do with me beating a high lvl miner consistently.

Yes, it does have a huge factor, and its what i said too if you read my post. Higher mining lvl = higher probability of getting an ore in certain ticks(Just like fishing).
