Default Good time to buy any dictontinued items?

I have ~300M sitting around. I don't know much about the discontinued item market (I know there are often times street prices which vary greatly from the GE prices and they kind of have an ecnomy of their own) so my question is, is right now a good time to invest into any discontinued items (pumpkin, h'weens, Santa, etc?). If not, can someone post here when it would be a good time?

Buy a red h'week mask, or a blue and a green. They're pretty stable, and I think they go up a little every day. Once you can, a white phat is max cash now.

YHJ wants one for merching, not to have. I think you're supposed to buy in the winter when people are in school, then sell it when prices rise because people are getting back into rs for summer.

I suggest you start 5% over/under merching instead of investing in a discontinued item. With 300m starter cash you could make a hefty sum each day.

Explain this a bit more please. Basically buy -5% sell +5%?
Also I thought people rarely use the GE for holiday items and most are traded person to person using different prices?

yea, you basically buy an item 5% over and whatever it buys at creates your selling price. Then sell it 5% under and whatever it sells at will create your buy price.

I wouldn't do it with holiday items. But this list I found with items and their limits should help with picking out an item. Takes a little while to find a good item but it definitely works. I can easily make 1.5m/hr with 50m starter cash.

Also, limits don't effect this type of merchanting as once you sell the items you buy the limit resets which a lot of people seem to not understand.

    Hope this helps.

Yea the above poster has a good list to start merching, but for really expensive items like weapons and stuff, the 5% lower/above may not always work, you gotta experiment and find a price that you can consecutively buy at, like 60k under the market price, and if you sell at market price with 10 weapons, thats 600k profit just for those items.

Oh yikes. Seems a bit scary to me (because not playing rs much/knowing the market well) dealing with all of those 'expensive' items in 'bulk' but hey, I have done my fair share of merchanting and will probably figure it out.

So basically rather than using my large sum of cash on one holiday item and waiting for it increase in price it's better to buy a bunch of decently expensive items and merch them instead. Gotcha.

Is anyone here currently doing this, any suggested items that are good right now?

    Thanks.

I agree with learning how to flip. There is a short guide on the money making section by Chineseman i believe. It can get you started on learning how to do it. Good items to start to learn with are ones in the most trade items in the grand exchange. Just go to the GE page and click more info to find the list on the left. Also, you will most likely have to go above 5%, but that doesn't really matter. The only reason you do it is to test out the highest sell price and the lowest buy price.

Only buy rares when you need to store cash because you hit the GP limit, otherwise you're just wasting money that isn't earned from flipping/short merchants.
