How to join the SRL IRC channel

    Important Information
    Server: irc.rizon.net
    Channel: #srl
    Port: 6667

    Other Channels
    #Simba

The SRL community has an IRC channel now, join up and talk to everyone today!

    What is IRC?

IRC is a very good way of bringing a community together, it allows anyone to talk to anyone else, prince or pauper. It's a channel that SRL people can join, I think its much better then MSN because you don't need to give out email addresses, someone can just join up, and other people can help them if they have problems with Simba or something. The best way to find out about IRC is just to join, its quite easy i think, only takes 2 minutes or so. There are many ways to connect to IRC, this thread shows a few ways, using PJIRC, mIRC, xchat, CBIRC and Mibbit. After you've gotten one of those, go to the section Registering your nick.

Btw, we should thank Bebe cause she got us this channel, so <3 to you

    Using PJIRC

This is the easest way for a newcomer.

    1. Go to the Rizon webchat page.

    2. Type in your nickname and #srl for the channel then press Connect, wait until the java applet loads and accept the security certificate.

    3. When you get in the channel, you may need to write /nick [your-nick]

    4. Now go to the section Registering your nick

    Using XCHAT

    This is my personal favorite.

    1. Download and install XChat

    2. Run it, fill in your details and choose the Rizon network and press Connect

    3. Type /join #srl to join the channel

    4. Now go to the section Registering your nick

    Using MIRC

    1. Download and install http://www.mirc.com/

    2. Run the program, and press Cancel on every popup until you get the blank screen as shown

    3. Type /server irc.rizon.net to connect, you should see something like this as it is connecting

    4. Type /nick [your-desired-nickname]

    5. Type /join #srl to join the channel

    6. Now go to the section Registering your nick

    Using CBIRC

This is a java applet that runs in your browser, to use it, you will need the java libraries to be installed on your computer (you can get them at http://www.java.com/getjava/ if you don't already have it)

    1. Go to http://www.moparisthebest.com/irc.php for an online version of the applet.

    2. When the shown dialog comes up, Close it.

    3. Type /server irc.rizon.net to connect, you should see something like this as it is connecting

    4. Type /nick [your-desired-nickname]

    5. Type /join #srl to join the channel

    6. Now go to the section Registering your nick

    Using Mibbit

This is an php client which runs in your browser, it is useful for a short-term solution if you don't have java installed for CBIRC. In my opinion, this isn't a very good client, if you use IRC regularly, you might want to use another client.

    Server: irc.rizon.net
    Channels: #srl
    Nickname: [your-desired-nick]
    Password: (leave-this-blank)

    Registering your nick

IRC has no concept of an account, anyone can just join and use a nickname, however, there is an option to password-protect your chosen nick

    1. Type /nick [your-desired-nickname] until you do not see the message telling you that nick is protected.
The message is normally something like this
-NickServ- This nickname is owned by someone else
-NickServ- If this is your nickname, type /msg NickServ IDENTIFY <password>

    2. Type /msg NickServ register [your-password] to register your nick

    3. Next time you connect to IRC, type /msg NickServ identify [your-password]

Thats all there is to it!

Similar rules apply on IRC as on forums, be nice, help people, no spam, that sort of thing.
