Default Help with setting up sound on external monitor

Could somebody help me with a problem i have been having lately? I have gotten a new tv and have hooked up an HDMI to it, it displays the pictures and everything perfectly, but i just simply want it to play sound out of the tv but it isnt. I keep changing the audio settings to the hdmi as the only source of sound, but nothing comes out. I also have windows 7.

It always confuses me why people go into wars about how we got here, and where we go when we die.

Is it an HDMI to HDMI cable? Or HDMI to DVI cable hooked to your computer?

Are you hooking HDMI from your computer to the TV? Pretty sure HDMI from a video card doesn't have sound unless its built into the video card. So you'll have to hook up sound from the computer to the TV another way.

A hdmi cabel can transmit both video and sound, but the case is most video cards don't got support for sound via hdmi. so what you can do is plug a sound cable to the tv or buy a new video card that fit to the motherboard with support for both video and sound trough hdmi.

Edit: Another thing you could check is this, go to control panel then sound and play, and see if hdmi sound output is deactivated , if it is simply enable it but i think it is enabled by default.

Generally if a graphics card has an HDMI output, it'll transmit sound. I know of few exceptions. I have a pretty low end card (5770) and mine transmits sound.

nvm, figured it out. i had to switch the sound output to the external monitor, then restart my computer.
