    Default reCAPTCHA

I've added reCAPTCHA to the forums registration. Let's hope this will stop of the spam.

I have read that chinese sweat shops are selling reCaptcha solves for as low as 1$ / 1000 (100?) solves or so. Let's hope they aren't using those / wont use them.

Check the date of registration of some of the spam bots. I've seen bots registered as early as April and didn't post until now. Meaning the reCaptcha-update didn't affect them.

E: But I also see a lot of users who registered this month too, so I guess it doesn't help that much

Nah, it doesn't help. The registration was guarded pretty well before as well.

It doesn't hurt to have it though.

Isn't there a plugin for blacklisting known spam bots? It dynamically updates the database when others report them as well creating a better list as time progresses? I believe Harry posted about it when this issue first came up.

There's a VB plugin that queries www.stopforumspam.com when someone tries to sign up but I don't know if it works on this version of VB. I think http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=176481 does it but you'd probably need to renew your VB license to download.

You could probably import the list of spammer IPs from that site into the adminCP but that might not be good if an IP gets delisted from there, or a new one pops up.

    Yeah. That's their job.
It might not be worth a living for you, but in other countries where the economy is more crap, they get paid enough to keep them fed for the day.

I know, and it's probably not the worst job you could imagine. Kind of inventive, even.
