Default Is SRL is dying? No!

Recently there is a lot of activity under the newcomers, some might call them annoying or even spam bots. But it's a fact that they are one of the few new members of this community. At the moment we are instantly banning them all and removing all the links which they placed to harvest some money. I think they are a group of users which can help us grow as long as they improve there AI till our standards. Maybe, after several years of developing they might become so human-like they even post working rs bots.

Of course none of that is going to happen if we keep banning them on their first post. And why? Cause they are different than us? Maybe cause in their culture it's normal to place links all over your posts? Shouldn't we be more tolerant towards members who have a different background? If you look at where they used to be advertising, this is a safe heaven for them. We don't distribute illegal torrents nor do we spread disgusting porn. If we ban them, do they have to go back? I think that is pretty hard, we are better than that.

From now on I think it's best to make a welcome move towards them. Lets place annoying links all over our post to make them feel comfortable.

Well, Runescape is dying, and SRL as we know it with it. The Java bots are now so commercialized is it difficult to make a stand. But this was known from the very beginning of SRL. Eventually commercial bots take over, as the developers have a constant incentive to maintain their bots: money. And scripters have an incentive to write scripts even if they don't play runescape anymore: Money.

We'll have to think really hard and move onto a different direction with the community, perhaps? (I mean a different game / setting, not going commercial)

The best way to contact me is by email, which you can find on my website: http://wizzup.org
I also get email notifications of private messages, though.

I couldn't agree more. This is all that I wanted to mention, so I second this.

masterBB, sorry your humorous thread got hijacked. Wizzup?, what other game would you suggest? At any rate, Runescape isn't quite dead yet.

Apologies for this gravedig but I feel Runescape is more close to dying than ever before.

Guess you could consider WoW or like me just quit and focus on life a bit more.

Would be interested to hear if there were alternatives

I think we should expand to new games! Maybe not botting them solely but form a community! Preferably on a new site? Otherwise this one will have to be seriously revamped...

    What's wrong with this site?

I think it would be excellent to have another game to write an 'SRL-like' library for. I'm not much of a gamer really, but I would consider near any suggestion quite seriously at this point.

I also think it would be really cool to make tools, and programs as a community. Very similar to what has been done with Simba, but not strictly limited to pascal.

    ^

villavu is fine imo, would need more game sections added?

Most of us are mainly here for the programming and community, Any games we can start to create library's for or make tools, that people will use, sure why not

Jagex are showing no sign of stopping their running of RuneScape into the ground which is a problem

Maybe we (WizzUp) can make Simba a more user friendly client to compete?

Nothing is wrong with this site it's just it is setup to be vastly a Runescape/Autoing site. If we were to also be a community for other games it wouldn't look like a very friendly site for that game in this site's current state! This is just imo if i were to just happen upon this site while looking for fanpages for a certain game I would leave it immediately.

you guys should take a look at robocode and torcs, robocode is basically writing AI to fight other AI bots while torcs is a car racing game with programmable cars/AI and you can compete with them

torcs sounds quite interesting, but I'm more so talking about something that involves SRL, rather than a new site to go to.

I am interested in a new game.
Would love to develop a new include from scratch with the community.
Is that League of Legends "bottable".
Also is this a discussion on changing of languages?

what can you really gain from botting LoL,

    IP Points?

discussion / champ picks would be a nightmare and where your team want you to go

in short, botting LoL is sorta worthless- wont gain anything from it.

thinking of a new game is sorta hard :/ it really couldnt be a 3d type of game (like WoW/GW2) unless there was a way to always know which angle u were facing (like the compass in rs) and the angle of view (setAngle(srl_angle_high)). but most games dont privide that. its hard to think of a challenging game that could actually be botted w/o tons and tons of hours of work. not many fit the discription as well as rs does :/

All new games will take tons and tons of hours of work.

We didn't develop a bot for RS just because it "fit the description" we made one bacause we wanted it. If we want a bot for another game we can just as easily come up with ideas to get a script to do something just as well as we did in runescape.

Runescape won't let this happen! Lol, but all serious, I believe that Jagex won't make the users suffer. They will make a change and watch it'll be a good change that'll bring the old-schoolers that were playing a month ago.

Everyone realizes this thread was a rant against the spam bots (before we stopped most of them)?

It's nice to see that Jagex is helping people quit their game since a lot of time+money is wasted on this game that could go to charity or other things that could help make the world a better place.

Haha Sirenia you make me laugh.

Are there any not very addictive games that are fun to play?

Not really viable, its direct X and has madddd shading, so the colors all blend into one, maybe with some kind of hook, but its not really viable with solely color

And its 3D which has its own issues
