Back when I joined SRL you had to wait a week and make 10 posts before gaining access to scripts. Had to do something to fill the time! And 4 years later, I've got 5 university offers, and I'll be starting a degree in computer science in less than 9 months.

If you want to script for Simba, then pick a book up on Pascal. Follow it and soon you will see its pretty easy.
Bot hard or get banned trying.

I have always had an affinity with learning how things work, how things run and how they operate.

For about two years I was the head administrator of a Nexus reseller website and I had access to being the head administrator of the other site they branched off to, EpicBot.
During that time, I found that I would always try to learn how the scripts I was using worked and seeing how beautiful they are on a code basis.

I did some research and I found SRL eventually. I never really even came here for the scripts. I came here for the pure joy of learning and the excitement of learning. I was apart of this community on and off due to real life problems and drama, I didn't get to really start learning Pascal and the SRL include as much as I wanted to when I first started, but I feel I have made up for it.

I plan to go in to other programming languages soon and brush up on my academics to get an education for software engineering or to be a surgeon. I love helping people, so the latter would be a great choice for me too.

    That's my little life story.

And a good story it is too - especially for you. And please - I am not patronizing you, just agreeing - that's all.

I heard someone say some time ago that everyone has a story to tell, if only we will listen. But we are usually so focused on our own story (and this is not a fault per se) just normal behavior - that people sense we are not interested and keep it too themselves.

E: In my world - I am the worlds greatest scripter, doctor, philantropist, lawyer, salesman - you name it. However - in real life I have to be satisfied with more modest achievements. The problem is that we usually don't see them as achievements because we know ourselves and our foibles too well.

I started 8 years ago with a program called Game Maker which is a great way to learn about making games, and you use "Game Maker Language" to program there. It was so exciting to learn about programming so I signed up for a "C++ programming for game developers" course at GameInstitute.com (i think, on my iphone now) which taught me what I know about C++. I never actually finished though as real life school pretty much beat down my motivation. Next year when I'm finally done with 13 years of learning nothing of interest I will start studying computer science at the university. Oh how I'm looking forward to that!

Oh yea, and somewhere in between I found SCAR which led me to villavu

RuneCMS. Apparently not too long after AR was shut down. RSC packetbots and what not. Also my first time stumbling upon Scar.

    Current projects:

Heh, I actually got my passion for programming from this community. When I joined, I had done a little bit of programming but didn't expect to make a career out of it.

My first attempt in programming was in scar. Me and my friend heard that you got to tell it what to do and we wrote something like
    "Kill chickens in lumbridge".
Obviously that didn't work. Later on I started modifying other people scripts and learning functions and procedures from them to make my own, very simple scripts. Now I'm studying computer science in an university.

^ Like what weequ said, I also learned most of the stuff from learning from other people's script (mainly harry's fight cave runner).

Its a really good way for a beginner to learn how to script.

I can't use something without knowing how it works. Doesn't matter if it's a computer or an engine. I have to take everything apart and want to know how to build it myself.

Some years ago I started with c++ followed by srl-forums. I know how to build a colour bot, I don't got much interest in making rs bots anymore. But every now and then I return to this community.

I was on a ferry to a summer camp talking to this kid (cause) about it and he told me how to auto. So I checked it out, applied when this was still a private community and was lucky enough to get in. I have been here every since

Like many others above, my time at SRL has prompted me to pursue my BSc dual majoring in Mathematics and Computing Science. I plan to continue onto my MSc in Computing Science and the super long term plan is to eventually get a PhD in Computing Science and Bioinformatics.

I agree, these are pretty interesting to read about. Kinda gives you a little background info on some fellow SRL'ers.

Because I was a bored kid who wanted RS skills and not spend 4000 hours on my account manually. All thanks to SRL
