    Default Getting good sleep

Let say I am sleeping a good time: 9 hours per night. Is it better to go to sleep earlier and wake up early like 11:00 pm to 8:00 am, or go to sleep later and wake up later like 1:00 am till 10 am?

From personal experience I'd say going to bed earlier and getting up earlier works better for my body.

From a biological outlook, resting from 11 pm to 8 am would slightly increase the capabilities of your brain during the day in terms of alertness, memory retention, etc. However, medically, neither proves to have a significantly different impact. Although I would personally choose the former, your decision will depend on your schedule.

I can explain why sleeping earlier would increase mental capacity tomorrow if you're really interested.

I agree with this. There's something energizing about waking up early in the morning and not being tired even still. I believe if you start out good in the morning, the rest of the day will follow in the footsteps.

I think I once heard something about hours of sleep before midnight counting for more than those after. But this could just be something my mother told me to get me to go to bed earlier...

Definitely 11 to bed, 7 or 8 to wake.

Well from personal experience, the best sleep pattern (at least for how I feel in the morning) would be 10pm - 6am (or 7 if you want 9 hours sleep).

Generally when I get up early and go for a swim or run in the morning, I find that I am feeling far more alert than if I roll out of bed 20 minutes before I have to be at work/school.

I have tried many sleep schedules myself. The one that worked best for me and the one I am on now is going to bed at 12 and waking up at 7. I felt fully awake when I woke up and fully tired when I went to sleep. I cannot sleep before 11 unless I exert myself to some massive physical effort which I rarely do, so 12 is the time I usually start to doze off at.
