Default New Computer or Upgrade Current?

(Hopefully this type of thread is allowed)

Hello, I recently decided to start playing RS again after a friend introduced me to Simba. Problem is, my computer kind of sucks, at least, I think. See, it's an old Dell Dimension 3000, which was purchased circa 2005. I can load web pages fairly fast, most programs work fine. When it comes to RS, it is pretty laggy, and Simba just destroys my system. I think it has something to do with my lackluster video card, but I'm not really a tech so I wouldn't know. Anyways, I have been thinking of either buying a new system or upgrading my current one to meet the game's (and others) standards. What do you guys think?

    Current specs:
    Intel Celeron (2.66 GHz)
    2GB RAM
Intel 82865G Graphics Controller (96.0 MB)

    And if these are important:
    Windows XP
Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A02
    Directx 9.0c

    Thanks for the time

Hard to say. It really depend on your budjet.

But I'd build myself a new system. 2005 is pretty old for a computer, and upgrading might cost more than what it's worth.

Hmm, could I build a decent one for ~$500?

Yes, much better than what you have.

Has an example, this is what you could get for 500$. It doesn't include a graphic card though. You could always get a nvidia 550 gtx or something like that for around 100-150$.

We're talking about a i5 quad core cpu with 8gig of ddr3 ram and 500gig of hard drive.
The powersupply doesn't have huge power but that's always like that when you buy "pre made" kit.

Again this is only an example, I just went to the site and searched for something close to 500$.
It's not a monster computer but for runescape it will be more than enough.

I personally will get a new system from a recent year (2011-2012). If you take your computer to get upgraded, sometimes they dont upgrade all of it and at the end is comes out costing more.

New system, the extra features that you get (flashy look, better screen) make up for the extra costs
