Default Polypore staff to train magic...

So I have all my melee maxed and range.
I want to continue training slayer and was thinking doing it using the staff so I can also train magic.

    Im at 92/99 magic 40k till 93
    and 94/99 slayer

I KNOW its not the best way to train magic.
Was wondering roughly how much experience can 1 staff provide roughly in this situation?

wel its different, because you might hit low and get less exp or hit high and get more exp, so just calculate it, total charges + average exp = total exp from staff

Its really horrible to train with tbh. It's just very cheap. I think I did a 150 blue dragon task and it got me arround 5k mage xp :/

poly staff gives low magic xp/hr, but it should be fairly easy to calculate magic to slayer xp ratio. Since every hp damage gives u 1/5 magic xp, and 1/10 slayer xp approximately, u'd be getting twice as much magic xp as slayer xp.
So when u get ~6m magic xp (for 99 magic), u'd have gotten ~3m slayer xp, which will get you to ~97-98 slayer lvl.

Hmmm, 97-98 would be great. It will be my fav 99 ever.
Im just wondering would it be better to train mage seperately by doing either soul wars or alching or even making planks and training slayer seperately with melee or range since Im already maxed and will probably go much faster. Or since im going for 99 mage anyway, use the poly staff to train both together.

Im wondering which would be faster and more effective...

    these are incorrect calculations.
you're forgetting the base exp for casting the spell.
Also you're negating the fact that monsters have different slayer exp...

The polypore staff doesn't give a base xp for casting like other spells. Xp is solely based off of damage dealt, which is 1/5 damage dealt.

Also, most monsters give close to 1/10 their hits as slayer xp.

I don't know if those two xp rates will line up perfectly over such a large amount of xp, but his logic is right.

It depends on the slayer monster u are assigned. If its something that magic can do almost equally well, like metal dragons, demons (practically anything that is weak to magic) then use magic. If u have arcane stream neck and 92 summoning for wolpertinger then magic can be quite powerful. Though if money is not a problem at all, it may be faster to train with surge/barrage spells while slaying for much higher magic xp.

yeah precisely why i say calculating poly staff xp is easy and more accurate since all xp received is dependent on dmg dealt.

Take a look at http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Slayer_monster, almost all slayer monster has exactly 10hp:1slayer xp ratio, though monsters may regenerate hp, or that u may overkill while slaying, but in the long run 2 magic xp to 1 slayer xp should be fairly accurate and at the very most it may deviate for ~50k xp for every few mil xp.

Well Im not looking to spend too much money on magic. That is why I was thinking using poly staff was a good idea, because its only like 400-500k. Say I use 10 staffs, would that be enough to get to lvl 99 mage? Or even 20 staffs, thats still 10m to get 99 mage.

Perhaps alching may be easier, or soul wars, but since I plan on doing slayer anyway, why not do it with mage

In my experience you get around 200-250k mage xp per staff.

    Not bad.
They are as low as 380k ea now.
Seems worth it to spend 10m to get to 99 mage, and get a bit more slayer experience.
I think I'll go for it as soon as Im done herbalore.

Are you 99 summoning? If you're not, you should consider spending some time bursting at rock lobsters.

I am at 100k away from 93 summoning, and I have enough charms for 95. I really really want to get 99 summoning and 99 prayer, so that I can finally join the 138 lvl group. Too bad I dont have enough money for prayer. Summoning I have no doubt I will be able to get soon.

Ive collected all my charms from slayer so far. By getting 99 slayer Ill also get enough charms for 99 summoning, + perhaps Ill make enough money for 99 prayer as well.
