Macs are slow computers. No one would use a mac for that. Also no doubt that it is possible. I just don't see any proof this guy really did that.

Well macs use the same chips as everyone else...

    Anyways desktop or server?
    Desktop: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...D=3962334&SID=
    Server: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819117261

No but really, a farm would just be a bunch of i5-2500k's or i7-2600k's.

I'm aware but you can't buy a mac with hardware you chose. Unless I'm wrong, you can't upgrade your mac with a new faster CPU. Also you pay triple for anything you buy. If your budget is x and you need to get the maximum speed, it is not advisable to go for mac.

It's not really triple. More like double. And you're paying for the close integration of the software and hardware. You're not going to get that anywhere else.

Hey I didn't mention about purchasing power, you just made a blanket statement that they were slow. I don't have one and wouldn't buy one.

You're paying for the brand and exclusivity from the sole manufacturer. Not sure what 'close integration' of software and hardware means, but sounds like a marketing shtick.

    ------------------

Somehow this has turned into a mac debate from one comment. Nevertheless, you don't need a server rack to operate a small botfarm. It's quite simple really.

I agree with smurg. To me they are overpriced. If your saying macs are more reliable then your wrong. .. and its too restrictive, you cant upgrade anything.

but then again iam a computer enthusiast; overclocking, water cooling, $700 graphics cards in sli lets see you do that with a mac..

Ah, I was wondering why it was so dead when I went there earlier.

Was bound to happen, was being abused quite badly by the gold farmers.

Somebody make a Mac debate thread and link it here. Wizzup and I got into it a little bit the other day. I'm more than happy to debate them.
