    Default Comic Sans

One of the world's biggest discoveries in the science fields (in the last 40 years) was made today (Higgs Boson Particle), and people bitch about the font it was presented in.. It's all over the news about twitter going mad because comic sans was used by the scientists to present their findings.

WHY does everyone hate Comic Sans except me? I offer you 5 billion canadian quarters (25 cents) and you turn it down because it has comic sans font.. I don't understand why the font is hated so much :S

    What do you guys think?

I think its a Font and nothing more. People get worked up about everything these days just to do so. I have used Cosmic Sans plenty of times for school and what not, so personally I find nothing wrong with it.

It's a really ugly font, and shouldn't be used outside of cartoons or comics in my opinion. If you're going to present a document to someone, comic sans should not be present, at all.

What? It's just a font. Looks far better than times new roman. The font was designed in 1994 to be used, not to cause controversy.

Most of the time if it's a document, all I want to do is read it. I can care less about the font as long as it's not unclear.

Comic sans tends to be a clean and clear and easy to read font.

There are many, better suited fonts than Times New Roman or Comic Sans. The Myriad sets are among them.

It's more than just a font, it's the way people perceive the people presenting the document and the text that it contains. Nobody takes people or documents written in Comic Sans serious, because it's not professional.

The font is a children's font, it is how I would like a 10 year old to present his paper not a 35 year old man.
It is ugly, and just gives me a bad vibe.

No I agree, while different fonts would have different effects on their subject it's absolutely stupid to 100% judge a presentation based on font. I agree with you Brandon, to me it's beyond stupidity.

I find comic sans very easy to read compared to a lot of fonts.. never had a problem with it... now if it was something that was supposed to be creative or .. extremely creative, comic sans obviously shouldn't be used

On 4 July 2012, the two main experiments at the LHC (ATLAS and CMS) both reported independently the confirmed existence of a previously unknown particle with a mass of about 125 GeV/c2 (about 133 proton masses, on the order of 10-25 kg), which is "consistent with the Higgs boson" and widely believed to be the Higgs boson. They acknowledged that further work would be needed to confirm that it is indeed the Higgs boson and not some other previously unknown particle (meaning that it has the theoretically predicted properties of the Higgs boson) and, if so, to determine which version of the Standard Model it best supports.

Pretty sure all scientific discoveries should be presented in that font.

    Let's compare:

    Comic Sans

    Verdana(great readability imo)

Sans serif vs serif will always be a personal opinion. So are all the other font qualities. Personally I think comic sans is made for what it says in the name. It is a sans serif font with the purpose to be used in comics. Using it for other purposes will make me remind of comics and thus I won't take it seriously. Also large documents do become less readable in my opinion.

This. You may think it's just a font, but it actually affects the way people perceive the text in front of them.

Doesn't affect me unless it has a blur or actually looks disgusting and it really doesn't.

Out of the fonts he posted, I'd choose comic sans and tahoma for readability. Calibri is the standard font, not tahoma. At least in MSWord/products 10/11 it is.

I honestly do not see how the font can be so hated. It's just a font! It's clear and easy on the eyes, it doesn't give me any emotional attachment or think of the person giving me a document as a childish person in any way.

Scientists make a big discovery and all people can think about is the font?! Man.. humanity.

I guess using professional fonts is too mainstream for scientists

I would choose Verdana out of those.

If it really was that simple, there wouldn't be as many fonts created today. I would never present a document to my colleagues and/or superiors in Comic Sans. I would get laughed at, scolded, and be made to redo it.

I think the main reason people are talking about the font is because it's the #1 most hated font, ever. The scientists should of been professional and used a normal font, like Verdana or something not so childish. I believe that's the issue, people are expecting a serious document about a big discovery and it's presented in Comic Sans, makes you want to laugh at them.

It's all about professionalism, and that's the bottom line.
