    Default Split/Divide and Multiply

    Split/Divide and Multiply:

I'm trying to think of anything, cells, atoms, (obviously I'm new to this field - science) etc. that can "split in half" or "be divided" (physically), however rebuild / multiply afterwards.

Ideas, specifics welcome. I'm sitting here bored and thought I'd try to get some productive thinking (or imagination) going. :P

An example that doesn't fit realistic terms (I'm shooting for realistic over unrealistic) is a Ditto from red version, being cut in half, then there being 2 ditto's, of the same size. (pokemon - don't think this ever happened, just trying to convey an image / idea of what I was thinking)

Well stem cells are a very hot topic right now and have a lot to do with this. Then there are Starfish and some lizards who can lose limbs and slowly regenerate them.

That is the essence of life my friend Reproduction takes a couple hundred thousand cells from two (or one if asexual... that would be interesting) beings and uses their genetic code to divide, grow and develop! And I'm fairly certain that is true for all known instances of both simple and complex life. I mean, we're just a very complex version of bacteria, are we not?

Hmm very true. I like the boldness in your response, it's enlightened me in the surrealism of reproduction. I share your thoughts on humans being a very complex version of bacteria, my mindset on the idea roots from the start of existence (after lets leave it at "lots" of years of an extent of evolution).

I hitt a couple interesting articles about human limb/body part regeneration being possible in the near-ish future. Nothing promising, but indeed igniting curiosity within :>

Then again, this is some of my opinion spilling my cup

Well, the new rs bar/client buffer has helped path my focus to other outlets of thinking (aka the mainstream rs addiction is subsiding for the time being), and this topic crossed my mind once again.

The idea's floated around within the links are stem-cells, extracellular matrix's, defining stem-cell types, etc.

This time I found quite a few interesting articles; their knowledgeable reputation varies, however I find them interesting nonetheless. I suppose getting familiar with these articles, I could start looking up thesis's and papers, we'll see
