    Default I are newby.

Hey, everyone. As the title (and post count..) says, I'm a newby to this site. In all honesty, I don't bot on my main, but my life long goal is to be a programmer, so what better place to start right?

I'm a pretty fast learner, so just point me in the right direction and away I go. However, I do appreciate detailed explanations on how and WHY things work. Just saves time and frustration, ya know?

Anyway.. I've only done a few things with scripting; Game Maker, mostly. Clearly not the same language, but it's still basic if, then, else. I'm currently looking through the Newbie Guides to see how this language works and hopefully be on my way to scripting.

    Welcome to the community!

You'll find the most basic tutorials easily, and if you want, you can check out YoHoJo's video tutorial(s?).
There used to be something meaningful here.

Tutorial island is the best place to start off, mate Give things a bit of a crack, post in a thread if there's something you want clarified and once you get going feel free to post in the help section and there's countless, very talented scripters who are always willing to help

    Best of luck!

Wow, impressed with the fast replies!
Typically, communities take days to welcome new members. Glad to see this community breaks that trend.

Thanks, Frement; I'll definitely be sure to check out video tutorials.

    EDIT
I've looked through a few of them, just which one to pick! Definitely a wide selection.

Welcome! The way everything is setup here, scripting is pretty logical and easy to pick up! I recommend reading through some tutorials and looking over other peoples scripts and play with modifying them - that helped me a ton when I first started out!

    Welcome to SRL

Even though you have a link to the Tutorials section thought I'd give you a lowdown.
Also, I'm just gonna use the guides that I used, no offence to others who may have created better guides.

First, you want to learn about the scripting statements in Simba:
    http://villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=58935

Then you want to apply that knowledge and find out how to find colours:
    http://villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44942

Once you've grabbed the basics, it's a good idea to read up on standards:
    http://villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=60288

In Runescape, you move around a lot, so use this to deal with that:
    http://villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=74090

Now learn about DTM's, vital for scripting in RS:
    http://villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=77691

You want to walk in your scripts don't you? Use this:
    http://villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=78905

Another vital thing you should know - Implementing Antibans:
    http://villavu.com/forum/showthread....hlight=Antiban

There are more advanced tutorials I can link you to, but you should cover these first to get familiar with the language and hopefully create your own script.

Once that first script gets under your belt, everything's a lot easier trust me

Definitely logical. Once everything's broken down, it's easy to learn a scripting language. That's what I did with Game Maker to get started, also. It helps a lot being able to see what does what and having comments added to each line of coding.

Welcome man. Most people have already suggested some good reads for you, also have a look at this thread: http://villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=77470.

It's a little more harsh than some, but a good one none the less. Again welcome and enjoy your time here.

I like the idea that you are already wanting to learn to script, that's a great attitude to have.
