Default Gold Buyer Claims Unauthorized Payment

So yesterday I sold a lot of rsgp to a guy who contacted me from a craigslist post. He didn't live near me, but he offered to send first using paypal. I gave him 1.2b and he paid me through 7 different payments, the last payment was supposedly from his brother's account.

Then about 30m mins later I find out that all the payments have been withheld. I called paypal support and gave them evidence that I gave him the items: Skype Chat Log, Screenshots. But since he claimed unauthorized payment that doesn't even matter.

Is there a chance I will get the money back? I want to know if you have any experience with this type of stuff.

No there really is no solid physical evidence that you sent what you sent. I could fake chatlogs and all that other stuff very easily. I highly doubt you are going to get anything back. Sorry for your loss.

The buyer didn't claim that they didn't get the items, only that it was an unauthorized purchase. I don't know how that will work out for me.

By withheld do you mean the money was in your account and then taken out, or never reached your account in the first place?

And what does unauthorized payment mean?

He charged back his payments, so the money he gave me went back to him. And Basically unauthorized payment means that the account was used without the owner's permission, which in this situation he's either lying or actually stole someone's account.

That happened to me once, best thing to do is to take the money out before he would withheld it. That how I got negative balance on Paypal lol, but Paypal doesn't care.

His account was non-us verified, I'm just hoping he wasn't smart enough to use a proxy and his IP Address was the same as the one he made the account on.

I tried to withdraw to bank, but that takes 3 days and paypal canceled it once the disputes came in.

best thing to do would be bug paypal..just ring them countless times to know your not messing around. you've lost out so it shouldnt matter as it was not your fault. if he's account has been compromised why should you be out of hand..if you get the gist.

I've called them and talked to a paypal rep and I said that you can see that the trades were legit since there were 7 payments and the buyer had to confirm that he got the gp after each payment. I pretty much explained everything in that one call, do you suggest I keep calling and asking about it? I should hope that they take 800$ seriously.

Once you sell a product, the payment is yours. It doesn't exactly matter if it was unauthorized. You already gave what you had. It's like Jagex's squeal of fortune thing. Kids who use their parent's credit cards cannot charge back.

After sending that many payments, paypal should realize it's not a fake payment.. :S
Never happened to me before but my friend won his last dispute exactly like this.

Keep calling till you get a better rep. Talk to Yohojo he sells gold lots. Maybe he had experience with this kinda stuff. Ask him.

yes, keep bugging, if you don't get a proper answer or if your not getting a good enough solution/response ask to speak to someone higher up...just tell them that your out of pocket and whatever it is, as long as you show them your prepared to go far to get your money back, they should take it seriously, however Paypal probs get's calls like this daily, which are thrown to the side. this is the reason why you have to keep bugging them/ringing back day to day. ask to take the name of the person that's dealing with the issue so you can reference to and keep up with how far your dispute has gone. also explain why you have to loose out when the other side was insecure about his account, and that its his/her fault for his account being unauthorized/hacked and that its not your problem. you made a trade with there paypal account. it shouldn't be your fault. keep asking them what you can do to get the money back. they should have records/ips of the trades or w/e. + if you can link it to craigslist then even better

i dont think there is much you can do. people are always getting charged backfor stuff like this. not sure how many disputes are won/lost but if hes saying it was unautherized then your most likely done for. even if i was the same ip he could claim a relitive stole his account and made the charges. sorry for your loss man... 1.2b is a good chunk of change.
you never know though keep buggin paypal like stated above. keep calling might get somebody who understands and feels sympathedic. plus as brandon stated that many payments looks suspisious. ask em if they can access the ip that was used during transaction, and if they can see its the same? maybe he gave some bogus story somebody he doesnt know hacked him. if thats the case and they see its his ip last used.. its a no brainer.. although sometimes these reps are no brainers.. not saying all reps are stupid but maybe thats why they get stuck with the customer rep jobs? lol:P

I was reading some threads on how sellers rarely win cases with unauthorized payments, but Brandon and pur3 and giving me some hope. I feel like I shouldn't be responsible even if it was an unauthorized payment. If I had known that chargebacks could happen beforehand I would have never taken this risk.

This was my first time selling rsgp through paypal. I've sold 1.5k$ worth of items from another game with paypal and 800$ of gp locally through craigslist. I never had any problems with that other game, so I never knew something like this could happen.

    You're f*cked. Sorry.

Seller vs buyer @ paypal = flawless victory for buyer

Sucks that you lost almost a grand on that scammer and that you can't do anything about it.

Personnaly I use playerauctions.com to sell my rs/diablo 3 gold, and they support tons of MMOs. Didn't have any problem so far. If you take screenshots or record a video of the transaction you're pretty much bullet proof, there's no way the buyer can charge back. The only issue is that they charge you some fees (like 8-10%) because they act as a middleman.

yea man playerauctions, wu, and moneypak(not sure how safe this one is but i see alot of sellers use this for un-trusted buyers) are your best bet. all you can do is learn from it and move on.. that is unless you can get it back good luck man. hoping that you can get your cash back. as i said its not like he stole 100m 1.2b is quite the chunk of change.

Not trying to be a smartass or an asshole, but if people would follow the runescape rules, this kind of thing wouldnt happen. its one thing to bot on runescape, but selling gold you've earned for real life money is literally illegal and is fraudulent.

Another thing OP, if you ever decide to sell over PP again, never let them do the same amount of cash twice, as they can say the second/third transactions were accidents and you only meant to send the first.
