    Default Annoying Uid.dat question..

    Yes, I know this has been posted all over, but this is the first time im doing this and I dont really understand. I have 2 computers, on this current computer im using I search for the files that contain the word "uid.dat." Now, a file that said jagex.cach or something close to that came up. I deleted that weird symbols that were in there and set the file to read only. Is that good enough? But, on my other computer when I searched for "uid.dat" I erased both files that came up. What way is better, to delete or set them to read only as I did above? Im just curious because I read this thread where someone posted all his accounts have been banned, and that kinda worried me a bit, so for the first time im attempting to delete my that uid. Im sorry for being annoying and asking this question a whole another time, but as I asked I wanted to know which method is better. Thanks for the help.

    Just use rs_deleteUID to get rid of it or there is a couple of places to look in. The first few times it will be here "C:\WINDOWS\.file_store_32" the rest of the time it will be here and you can use that function to delete it "C:\WINDOWS\.jagex_cache_32"

    I've set them read only in the four (I think) places that Jagex has put them. They always stay at 0kb now, so I guess Jagex can't track me by them

    So, to answer your question, I overwrited them, and then set them to read only. Do that to all of them, and then load RS again. See if another one pops up.

    Code:
            as = (new String[] {
                "c:/rscache/", "/rscache/", "c:/windows/", "c:/winnt/", "c:/", "/tmp/", h, ""
            });
            as1 = (new String[] {
                ".jagex_cache_" + j1, ".file_store_" + j1
            });
    Of course, I'm not supposed to know that... *whistle whistle...*

    Edit: I did find something useful about UIDs, their length, and getting caught, but that's against the SRL mainpage, so I won't post it.

    Open them with notepad, delete all the letters, save it again, right-click it, select properties, check read-only.

    A small amount copyright infringement (I think? I'm not sure since I'm not calling it my own... whatever.) and a large amount of boredom. Let's just leave it at the fact that runescape isn't recompilable.

    Anyway, that little block gives rs a list of places it can go, and folders it could be in.

    A uid file is only 4 bytes long. I think it's just a hex code, kinda like a person's tax number. It get's stored on Runescape's server thing and they identify people..? I dunno.
