    Default The Deep Web

The deep web, also known as the dark side of the internet, is a large portion of the internet where there are no rules. There arent regulators making sure content is apropriate, or even legal. These are sites that dont show up on your average google search, and require a little extra effort to find. I've read a few articles and such on it, it seems pretty interesting, what are your thoughts? Dangerous, not dangerous? Good idea, bad idea? Experiences?

A lot of the websites on the deep web isn't dangerous at all; the only condition to make it to deep web is to not show up in google search (or other search engines). The bots works in such way that the only thing one have to do in order to not show up is to not post the website link anywhere

Lies. Some are unabled to be shown. They can't be Cached, so google and such can't show them.

Well most require authentication or operate on a different protocol.

Usually if you don't want to be found, it's generally not the most positive thing. However, there can be privacy concerns. But I would guess that the majority of sites would be unlawful in their corresponding country (or at least not want to draw attention if it's a grey area).

Probably a lot of blackhat activity going on there.

Not sure it would be very safe to even visit.

Not sure about viruses and other stuff, but I would definitely browse these type of sites on a VM or a netbook that you don't care about and can reformat if something goes wrong.

From my readings, the onion network is the most popular. There's a lot of bad stuff (mainly pedophiles and child pron) that goes on. I've been reading a lot about it and my curiosity is starting to get the best of me, I think I might install all of the needed stuff to access the onion network and all of those sites just to see what all is there...

I've heard of if, I tried accessing it once, but the thought that it is a million times larger than normal internet just blew me away and I had to wait for some other time when my curiosity gets the better of me. Maybe if I need to know some piece of information that was only there, then I would definitely delve into the underbellies of the internet as we know it

It's a cool place if you want to hire a hitman/watch cp/trade drugs. Surface internet seems to be sufficient for everything else.

I think it could be dangerous, click on one back link and you could end up with a serious problem on your hands plus with the added damage of mental break down after child porn or something else ghastly appears

My cousin came home one day and showed me a whole bunch of sites like you are describing, while it is interesting in a "I can't actually believe this is out there" kind of way to begin with, if you actually think about what is being done, it's enough to make you sick.

There were videos of people naked, blindfolded in a desert as militants walked around and randomly shot them in the head. There were others, but I think this makes my point.

For those of you curious to check it out, get onion browser from installous. Just tried it, but I chickened out of clicking on any links... Read through the links on the hidden wiki though, sounds like a messed place.

I was tempted one day but governments are watching and could easily trace you.. make sure your are proxy'd to hell. GL. One way to be secure is by using the TOR browser. (plus its one of the only ways to actually access .onion sites.)

Outside of the US and Europe, countries don't really care what you browse in the internet. I know that people from deep web can watch you from your webcam and such without your realizing though.

WTF that's really freaky. I'm taping over my webcam if I ever decide to explore.

As stated before, any website and/or website section that is not listed on any search engine is located within the "Deep Web". This includes having to log in to download files from various websites (e.g. RapidShare; this is where the size estimates of the "deep web" mainly come from), logging in to forums that are hidden from guests, etc. The Tor software also opens up several new websites that are inaccessible via standard means, and are classed to be on the "deep web". It's quite a loose term.

So in theory, SRL would be considered to be in this "deep web" because you have to login to download a script? Wow, crazy. Sounds evil lol.

The attached files are on the "deep web" (iirc, there are no links to attached files when browsing the forums as a guest?), yes. Just like how The Black Market section is also on the deep web, and the SRL members section, etc.

I'm pretty sure you can see the links as a guest, but if you try to DL it, it asks you to login. But yeah, I understand about the Black Market, SRL Members section, etc. Pretty interesting stuff.

I've browsed on it through TOR, pretty neat. Lots of things to avoid, but if you can manage that the wealth of information is amazing. It's sort of hard to get around on it, the hiddenwiki is good but you can only go so far from that. For those curious about this, I don't recommend it if you're easily freaked out by stuff like killing and CP
