    Default Greatest Olympian?

So I am curious ask to see what people think of who they think is the greatest.

I think many say Michael Phelps is the best but then I read a artical where there saying its a toss up for Michael Phelps or Usain Bolt for the London Olympics.

My view is only reason why Michael Phelps is named the best is because there are so many events for him to enter. (team events, 100mm, 200mm, etc)

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1...pian-in-london

Same goes with Usain Bolt which has a little bit less events to get gold in but look at whos got the best record?

Neither of those two and its the one who has got the least amount of attention though they are a team but they both showed how great they are with there stats.

The two I am talking about is; Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings

Its out standing they never lost before, they have always ranked gold...They play more matches & they always keep winning, to me to be the best you always have to win. It shows stabilty.

So who do you think is the great Olympian? You can't rule these two out because its a team and not a solo because at the end of the day look how bad Michael Phelps performed this year. Then look at how stable Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings performed....

    So lets see what everyone else thinks;

if its an argument between bolt or phelps, then i would definitely go with phelps. phelps can compete in way more swimming events than bolt can with track.

phelps can swim most swimming events that there are and win. there are 4 different strokes for swimming and he is one of the best at all of them.

with bolt, all he can do are the sprint events for track. yes he is amazing at them, but thats about it. you don't see him attempting long jump or high jump

I believe the more range of events you can win and compete in the better the athlete.

That's where it doesnt make sense.

There are many swimming events than track, therefore consecutive track wins are more rare than consecutive swimming wins.

This has been debated by many sportscasters and they all agree that Usain is a better athlete.

    definitely weed.
usain bolt and phelps both smoke. that's why they won!
If you disagree your point is invalid because I'm correct. Weed helps you run faster and the smoke actually rebuilds the damaged lung tissue.

    I'm right.

Sarcasm, although I do find it interesting and I really like that they both smoke weed and still are the greatest Olympians

I'm not really updated with the olimpics people's background of so.But if you are looking for the best one, In my opinion it would go to any that is going through something difficult at the moment. Example: something in their body not good, someone in there family died, or simply just making people proud by being in the olimpics.

As far as Phelps vs Bolt goes, despite Phelps' ability to compete, and win, in so many events... There is just something so prestigious about being (by far) the fastest man alive. So in light of that I would have to say Bolt.

Bolt could enter a lot more events if the 100m and 200m weren't as high profile or strenuous. He is a very good longjumper and he may enter that event in the Brazil olympics just as Carl Lewis did (http://www.news.com.au/news/usain-bo...-1226448220041). He is also good at football and I would like to see him play for Man Utd at some point ...He can kick the ball and then meet it at the other end! Usain Bolt is a freak of nature, he could play a load of different sports if he wanted to. Imagine him playing American Football or Rugby!

Manteo Mitchell did break his leg but continued running the last 45 sec without him usa would not be in the finale! i also enjoyed watching Tatyana Lysenko winning
btw Bjørn Dæhlie is the greatest in my opinion
