Default New newspost about the future of RS

    Mod MMG on RuneScape Micro-Payments:
    http://services.runescape.com/m=news...micro-payments

I know you probably don't care about what he has to say, but scroll down to skip all that micro payment bs and look at the pictures.

Will they keep runescape in java and also have a HTML5 version.
Will they completely switch to HTML5?
Above all, what are the implication of this for simba and other bots?

    Discuss.

I doubt Simba will be affected, worst comes to worst and we'll have to get rid of Smart, but the Java bots on the other hand.....

Well I'm pretty sure that if they decided to dump java, it would have an impact on simba SRL. The graphics wouldn't be exactly the same (as you can see from the screenshot) and so we'd need to tweek alot of SRL functions.

That being said, it wouldn't be a fatal blow for us, only a minor anoyance, and we'd be back in buisness in no time.
Can't say the same for injection though...

I think it'll be at best, a temporary syntax change; logic will remain to develop necessary adjustments for HTML5. This is based off of no experience with either Java or HTML5

Unless they've created a browser plugin based api we need to install I don't see them porting a direct3d/opengl game to HTML 5, it sounds ridiculous especially with the code visibility if they go webgl route. If they do it most of the code would be in the plugin anyway, and then they have the overhead of maintaining the plugin across all browsers and all supported os.

If that happens, day 1 I'll do a tutorial for you guys for a virtualized alternative in which you'll be able to run multiple bots without stealing your mouse.. already been thinking about the "what ifs" for the html5

You guys are overhyping HTML-5.. No point worry about anything at all as it's a ridiculous move by Jagex and it will definitely lag bad.. They must provide some alternative. I don't see runescape being written in just HTML-5 at all.

Third, it'd make botting so much easier! You'd have things like cheat engine or bots that just read the RAM for the browser and check for stuff. HexWorkshop does this already and so does HxD.
Writing a program to do the same thing will be far easier than the current injection methods.

The difference in speed between java and html is quite a lot but then again that depends I guess.

I'd love to know why they show more of the view now instead of before.. With OpenGL/DirectX, you can easily change the viewport and depth and frustum and bam you'll see the entire map at once.

Oh.. I thought of that memory reading but I figured they had some fancy way to get around it O_O I would also assume they're doing javascript+html5 type.. but that doesn't change the reading

if that's the case, this can get exciting :P

are there methods to embed the client + a mouse, like a web browser that has its own embedded mouse or something?

I read that yesterday and didn't think anything of it. I would assume we will be another graphical setting that we can change to show us more or less of the map.

You forgot to mention the "Account Guardian". I belive this will be an "You-must-download-this-program-to-play-the-game." kind of thing.

Would take quite a while anyways to get RS to be completely into html5.

Anyways, I'm looking forward to it, would seem the game would benefit from it.

(+ isn't there a way to manipulate web sockets with injection like bots?)

Anyways, start grinding bottables before the conversion hits :P and bam, you are rich.

This is interesting. I hope Simba will survive this once again.

If they remove Java bots then that's it forever for any kind of Java bot? Don't you think they have any type of preparation plan for this kind of thing?
I do see some small changes that Simba will have to make, but nothing major.
All the best to the devs who will need to fix some things.

Well this all makes me ask this question about us: When the bot nuke happens it is most likely gonna to take down the other bots for a looooooong time...which will then have the roaches "scurrying" back to our place again..... do we as a community have a plan to weed out those who never left versus those opportunists who feed off of us?

They will never get to enjoy the fruits of their own labor (i.e. self-made scripts) and that would be a loss tremendous enough

We might just see a good portion of the public scripts making their way to a... more secluded area. Now would be a good time to existing SRL'ers to prove themselves and gain the Member rank, before we get swarmed again, no?

I hope they do. Even color botting is not much of a challenge anymore. A bit of action from their sides could bring a bit of life in our include.

I hope it gives you the option to get confirmation before logging in from a new ip. Hacking will be dead then.

Ive been thinking about this account guardian thing... If I were to venture a guess it would be similar to the Blizzard "authenticator".... Blizzard has two ways to do this...one is a text message from your phone, and the second way is a little handheld device.

This definitely makes it difficult for people on their services to vamoose with your account....

This does though bring up some interesting issues for us botters..... will we have to always use it or only when we want to change certain account info (email or whatever)....if it is always it would be a pain in the ashcan (but also for legit players too!), but if it is the later option then its not a huge deal.

It won't be mandatory, just an option that you have to make your account more secure. I wouldn't be surprised if they made a better version of it and sold on Solomon's store. It would be something worth buying then.
