    Default Physics Rocket

Not sure when, but at some point in AP Physics we'll be making bottle rockets. Now, I'm not having any of that candy ass soda and vinegar shit, suggest stuff that'll burn eyebrows from a 100 feet away but will still keep me comfortably far away from guantanamo bay.

Needs to be something that a 17 year old can acquire (if lots of it)

Potassium nitrate, lots of it. You may want to make the rocket out of metal, thick metal. It will burn right through it.

You can dismantle fireworks for the mixture contained inside.

question is if you can find some det cord around that might be used to set it off.

also try and put some magnesium in it just for giggles as that'll burn nice and hot

Depending on the amount of time you wish to invest, May I suggest a pulse jet? So with a valve, valveless won't work well for a small rocket.

Thermite - It's easy to make and...
"It's something more powerful than napalm, and today we'll learn how to build an incendiary device using this chemical. It's called thermite and it's used in modern incendiary bombs. Obtaining this chemical is not only simple, but it's also legal."

How to make thermite from purchased materials

    Iron (III) Oxide (1/2 kilogram)
Aluminum Powder – didn’t see it on Amazon so I linked to the search results for it on eBay: there’s a BUNCH of it on there, pretty cheap too (about $8-10 a pound it seems)
Magnesium Ribbon(you can also use a sparkler)

I'll never see this again, so if you have more questions, catch me on IRC
    1) Electrolyse water into hydrogen oxygen mixture (this can happen in the 'base' of your rocket) google is your friend.
    2) Have rocket mounted on a ignition tube (kind of like a nerf gun, pressure powered).
    3) Ignite hydrogen and oxygen mixture with a spark (disassemble one of those gun style lighters with the clicky piezo sparker) (be careful not to make a bomb).
    4) Watch as people jump from the sound of the blast, but not as high as your rocket just went.
    5) Good luck finding the rocket

As far as electrolysis goes, a handful of D batteries should have plenty of voltage/current to do the whole process in around 10 minutes tops, so it's definitely portable. Bonus points for not making chlorine gas and making everyone sick (seriously, google this stuff). I've done this before, works nicely. Also, very thick graphite rods (like, from inside a wooden pencil, the 2mm stuff or greater) makes fantastic electrodes that won't electroplate away during electrolysis.

You just need a point where some liquid (Like potassium nitrate probably...) vents out a small space, with a huge container relative to it making pressure on the exit hole.

If I'd made a rocket... I would make it a glider... no point in letting it just crash after the fuel runs out. (You might want to add a chute.)

    No time for anything atm.
