Default Computer problems... Terrible computer problems...

    Start >>> Run >>> Services.msc >>> Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) >>> "Start"

Doing that give me this error:

Could not start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service on Local Computer.

Error 10093: Either the application has not called WSAStartup, or WSAStartup failed.

I have to get this started if I want to get the internet on my laptop again.

(I'm using a different computer to type this up.)

If you need more information, just tell me. I really didn't know what to put.

    Please help if you can!

    -Mike

...or if anyone has some advice on how to fix a computer after an uninstall of hamachi trashed the internet, that helps too...

I feel bad for not being able to fix a problem that's really my fault

It doesn't seme to me like Hamachi had anything to do with it, though

Even if it did, it's still not your fault.

How were you supposed to know that it would mess up my computer? It didn't mess up your computer, did it?

Trust me, I download a lot of stuff! It could of been anything

I just need to know how to, 1. Get my Windows Firewall working. and 2. Get my ICS back up and running.

    Until then, it's a $400 Game Boy

    Jason's too cool for msn

I still recommend that you use zonealarm and ditch the windows firewall...it's really not very useful....

Maybe try restoring your computer? (system restore)

    @ Klean

My dad feels that things like MSN and such are too unsafe. Therefore, we're not allowed to use them

    @ Smartz

I'm gonna give you a rough explaination of what my dad feels is going on with the Firewall...

McAfee walks in, flashes their badges, and tells Windows that they're gonna take over. McAfee Network Agent walks over and grabs the Firewall away from the Windows employee, and tells him to take a hike. Everything's goin' fine.

Here's the story when Windows has no firewall:

McAfee walks in, flashes their badges, and tells Windows it's gonna take over. The McAfee Network Agent walks over and says to himself, "Oh! It seems this computer has no firewall, I guess there's no use for me. *walks away*" Everything is NOT going fine. McAfee network agent refuses to run as long as Windows has no firewall to take control of.

And as for system restore.... Already did that *pats laptop* that's ok, I know it's rough.. (He thinks he's losing his memory... Poor little guy...)

    I don't think that's what I need.

Mr. Lappy is already set up for ICS. It just refuses to work properly at the moment.

Or if you can back up files i would just do a format.

This is outa the ball park but if what you said is: you cant connect to the internet...I would try reinstalling TCP/IP stuff by right clicking on the connection and from there just highlight TCP/IP and click install. Cant hurt your computer to try this.

    @ Klean

My dad had to reformat his machine not that long ago. Lost everything

I guess if it's all I can do, I'll do it, but I'd like to try everything else first.

    @ Bullzeye

We did uninstall McAfee. Problem still not fixed

    @ Mike

    I'll check that out, thanks

@ Jason: Don't reformat. Do this

(Install windows beside your current windows, then you will be able to save all your stuff before you reformat (if you even decide to reformat, that is))

    Thanks, Smartz

I did try out the reinstalling the TCP/IP thing. I had three options to add. Client, Service, and Protocol. I tried the Service. Then the Client, neither worked. Then I tried Protocol, and it said it couldn't find any drivers for it

I assume, seeing as how everything that can possibly go wrong with my computer is going wrong, I need a driver for Protocol, right?

    Here's my guess:

I think it's talking about the driver for the virtual hamachi network adapter

Your pc still thinks it's there...

Is there any way to point my computer in the right direction, without installing Hamachi again?

Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Device Manager -> Network Adapters -> Hamachi Network Interface -> Uninstall

    Try that, maybe?

darn, I wish I could replicate your problem but I can't seem to. If you have a computer with internet...I highly suggest searching through the hamachi support forums or something. I bet you already tried that though.

Also, it depends on what connection you right click. make sure its the connection you use to connect to the internet. Maybe Hamachi messed up the driver for your ethernet adapter on your computer.

To make sure all your hardware drivers are installed correctly, right click "my computer" go to properties then go to hardware tab, then go to device manager. If there are any yellow question marks or red marks beside an network type component you may have a problem with the driver.

    good luck.
