    Default Fun things to with magnesium?

    I have a 1'' strip of Mg that I would like to entertain myself with. I know that it is bright when you burn it but I was wondering if anyone had any better ideas. So far I have thought of burning it as a strip or making thermite, but I don't know how to powder it or the aluminum...

    Burning it makes really bright light, or you could drop it in phospheric acid and it smokes and bubbles, its mildly entertaining. Someone else might have better idea's, those are mine.

    Whatever you do, don't pour water on it while it's burning lol. This video demonstrates:

    Will do . But unfortunately I don't have that much .

    @JoeyGupta

    I have aluminum, but not powdered. I will google if there is a effective way of powdering it.

    E: Read this, especially the comments lol. Why I don't order anything like this online

    Definitely just burn it and then pour water on it. But make sure you video record it so that I can watch

    Put it in hydrochloric acid. It'll create small bubbles hydrogen gas I think, haven't took chemistry in a few years though.

    Guys, the easiest thing to do is to oxidize it to its max, use Aluminum Powder and the Magnesium as the oxidizer.

    You can easily make mini hand grenades, if controlled properly!

    As far as I know, if you simply put it in water you will get an explosive reaction. It doesn't have to be burning.

    Of course with a small ammount, it wont be very explosive.

    No, unfortunately it has to be burning and there has to be a large amount of it. I think you're thinking of alkali metals.
