    Default Malala speaks out

Hey all, I wanted to bring up this bit of news that just recently happened about a 14 15 year-old girl from Pakistan named Malala Yousafzai. She was shot (by the Taliban) multiple times in the head on her way to/from school, just last week.

The reason being she had, for many years, stood up and spoke her mind in defense of womens' right to education. She started a blog a couple years ago explaining how hard it was for girls in her area to attend school with the local extremist Taliban. Several schools have been destroyed in the past. The event has really stirred up nations around the world.

She's currently in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. The word is she's heading for a "good recovery".

My heart goes out to this girl and her family. I wish all the best for her and I truly hope this continues to shed some light, from the rest of the globe, onto nations like this and people like her.

You can read more about incident here:

Yeah this is horrible...and this is actually happening in Pakistan, the same ALLY who gave safe harbor to Osama, and actually not only created the Taliban, but also is a large friend of the taliban....talk about playing BOTH ends at once.

I've seen this on the news. I can't understand how their religion can let them kill other people... Or torture them. Or do any of horrifying things.

And I fail to understand the reason for such things as not letting women have a good education.... Dammit.

I hope she will be alright. And I hope those scumbags will be dealth with.

Propaganda people. I don't say this didn't happen. But the amount of media attention is ridiculous. This is just the government telling you to hate those people!

I think you might be right.

Details I heard where she only got shot once.
Media trying to get some attention?

Well it is true that she only got shot once, she was shot at multiple times. This could be causing the confusion.

I'm honestly disappointed to see that coming from you masterBB...

The amount of media attention is due to this girl's history. She started talking about her situation years ago and started gaining attention even then. Just last year she was interviewed by CNN, on top of that she won Pakistan's first National Youth Peace Prize. She's now being considered for the Nobel Peace Prize.

This all happened before she was shot, she wasn't "just another girl who got shot" by the Taliban, she had global recognition before the event.

The good news is the Pakistani people are rallying behind her. And the Pakistani government has put a bounty for her shooter and is funding her treatment, AFAIK.

Ah a professor was telling us about this (Theology class), honestly this just shows the weakness of the taliban a group of spineless terrorists who can only communicate with violence.

    Words > Violence any day.
I wish her the best recovery.

Agreed. Perhaps that further proves that only education and peaceful talks can resolve terrorism.

To fight violence against violence would make us no different from terrorists, as even though it may be for a good cause, so do the terrorists think that their actions are justified, and the result is more bloodshed from retaliation.

We need to get them to learn that personal ideologies should not be advocated through violence, and providing opportunities to education to people from all walks of life is crucial to its success. Not to say that the educated won't become a terrorist (in fact some terrorist leaders are well educated), but that is another issue on the flaws of education (how civics and moral education are being overshadowed by the need to achieve academic success). Again, eliminating the root source of extremist ideologies may help but sensitive issues of religion must be cautiously handled.

    I found this:

    Dear Religion,

This week I safely dropped a man from space while you shot a girl in the head wanting to go to school.

Wonderful quote. I found this today:

Apparently the Taliban didn't expect the event to receive so much attention, and they've been targeting journalist there in Pakistan. I guess they're mad because the rest of the world is able to stay connected, so if they do something like this, everyone will know.
