    Default Science Fair

    It's that time again...

Alrighty guys! I need some ideas for Science Fair!

Has to be school appropriate(no fires, anything dangerous)

Has to be pretty challenging for a teen.

Nothing like a volcano, my last project was how light wavelength affected plant growth, but I'd like something a bit more difficult than that.

    Thanks guis.

While most people do science fair projects about volcanoes and plants or energy, you can do a:

    1. Nuclear Weapon Detector
    2. Mind Controlling Device
    3. Teleport Device
    4. A robot capable of speaking and answering questions.

A solar Oven that can cook your food including the energy needed to heat it up and also the temperatures reached after certain times.

What are your interests? I can look through my old physics lab manual. There were some great experiments in there that were pretty easy but very educational.

the friction coefficient lab comes to mind.

Now that you mention Energy, you can do something with the static from your body and computers and what it causes and the anti static wrist strap.

I did the coefficient of friction one in physics class this year.

    Educationalness: 9/10
    Fun: 5/10
    Difficulty: 2/10

    Hope that helps

Does your school have a lab? Ask the guy in charge if you can do it. Make a plan before you start though. Include the chemicals needed (and their safety instructions, this is really important), equipment needed and a step by step plan. It's really not that hard to do yet the chemistry and physics behind it are very complex and largely not understood. Heterogenous chemistry produces the bulk of our chemicals but we can not fully explain all the processes involved.

Labeled in order, not posted to PB in order (1000% hate photobucket)

Terrible photos but I think you can read them. I could if I zoomed in. PB might make them worse.

But it should be enough to let you see if this is something you would consider.

I've never done a science fair project, but I have done lots of labs in college. Concrete mix design is interesting. Check out the other photos on my bucket so see some of that, and the metals labs. You don't have access to a 100,000lb+ crushing device do you? haha.

edit: forgot to add that if you do want to do this, I can take some better scans of the lab. Just PM me or add me on MSN messenger.

    You replied

Some scientists say light does not bend, some say it does. Many text books are split in their views. I say you test it! Normally, the only way I know for someone to bend light, is through gravity. Since E=mc^2, you know mass and Energy are interchangeable, saying energy is mass particles moving at the speed of light squared etc. Thus large masses 'should' bend the path of such particles, making a bent path of light. Try something with different masses, different objects/different sizes, use tons of mirrors, DO IT ALL. Find a way to bend light for me plzz

How about, a lighting system powered by a miniature hydroelectric system.

But where is the amazing science in that? He should do something awe inspiring, something that disproves a theory, something so aweinspiring that in makes your jaw drop, something new...Something...like...GIVING BIRTH!!! JK

You could make a hydrogen generator. Sounds fancy but its really not. I find them very interesting and did a project on it back in high school. You use water + electrolyte as a fuel source and you get hydrogen gas which is used as a combustable for car engines or whatever energy sources you want. It might be considered dangerous but if you add a bubbler to your system its completely safe and clean burning source of fuel.
